Tigers on a roll, Demons its all over

The AFL betting tips opened with the traditional Anzac Eve battle between Richmond and Melbourne at the MCG. The Tigers are showing they can find a way against adversity. Yet again the strength of playing to a system as opposed to the players in that system was on show from the Tigers again. They are well drilled and well structured.

Melbourne on the other hand are shot. Nothing they are doing is working and they look like they have fallen victim to the “it will just happen” theory. This is where sides who make the Preliminary Final and naturally think the next progression is into the big dance. Meanwhile forgetting what it takes to get there. The other school of thought is that Melbourne were so stung and embarrassed by the big loss in the 2018 Preliminary Final. That all self belief vanished and they haven’t been able to recapture their late season 2018 form. Their season is shot and they need to now work toward 2020 as a top 8 AFL finals spot will not be happening.

Collingwood home in Anzac Day classic

It was one of the great AFL tips betting ANZAC DAY clashes going right down to the wire and no team lost any face in this one. Collingwood jumped out to an almost six goal lead and an annihilation of the Bombers was looking on the cards. But then the Bombers got their “rip, shit, bust” attacking game going and were able to string goals together getting the margin back to 3 points. The final quarter was one of the great final quarters of ANZAC DAY footy you will see.

The way the game was played presented some interesting analysis for the genuine footy head. Perhaps the most obvious thing was the old saying “the best form of defence is attack”. This was evident when the Bombers could really start getting the game on their terms. They were able to dry up the Pies scoring and score heavily themselves. But for a few non calls by the umpires the match could’ve gone either way.

For the record, Collingwood captain Pendlebury was a most deserving medal winner. Whilst Essendon supporters were irate with the umpiring. Please, do you have to boo during the medal presentations. Why not respect the medal, then boo if you have to.
Coach Buckley was well within his rights to speak his mind.

Port deliver over North…or did they?

Port Adelaide walked away from their Friday night AFL tips betting battle with the Roos with the points. However their inability to be ruthless and put a side away is still under question. There is an underlying theme that when Port think they have “matches in the bag” it can turn ugly very quickly. Make no mistake this was Port taking the foot off the accelerator not the Kangaroos showing resilience. Port also loses its best player Robbie Gray for a month with a broken hand.

This brings us to Brad Scott and his continual belief that his team is “heading in the right direction” and that “this club never gives up we are built on the Shinboner spirit“.

For the record Brad has taken the Kangaroos in his decade of coaching to 9th ( 2010) 9th (2011) 8th (2012) 10th (2013) 6th (2014) 8th (2015) 8th (2016) 15th (2017) 9th (2018) and currently 18th (2019). With this record he is about to surpass Dennis Pagan (2 time premiership coach) as the longest serving North Melbourne coach. Is it just us or does something seem a little wrong with this picture!!

Brisbane smash the Suns in the Q-clash

The Q clash the local AFL tips betting Queensland Derby between the Suns and the Lions was a real arm wrestle with scores pretty much level at half time. Enter Lachie Neale (3rd fav Brownlow Medal) as he has done in three of four Brisbane wins this year and next thing you know if was game over.

The same cant be said for the Suns and there will be some serious internal questions asked this week with their second consecutive hiding and leaving them poised at 3-3.   Dew was almost accepting of their defeat at the hands of Adelaide the week earlier, arguing that the month of games under decided by under a kick had taken a toll. But seeing the deplorable second half by his side, it was lack of effort that concerned Dew most “we were really disappointed with our level of competing”. For the Suns there is a question mark, the Lions look like a very good season is ahead.

Crows look to get it together, Saints we will see

There were some signs last week but finally Tex Walker put in a strong “big” man performance in the AFL tips betting round six clash in a dominant Adelaide win. It was a much needed effort from their co captain. Adelaide showed some signs that they might be working their way back into form with a 3 quarter burst that saw them home against the Suns the week before. After a slow start against the Saints they really got their game going again. This signalled to the rest of the competition that they are not done with in 2019.

St Kilda have had a great start to the year with a 4-1 win/loss have battled manfully particularly with their injuries early in the season. The Saints have a tough 3 weeks ahead with the GWS (Giants stadium), West Coast and then Collingwood at the MCG. How they come out of the 3 week period will go a long way to us seeing whether the Saints are pretenders or whether they are moving their way towards contenders.

GWS bounce the Swans out of 2019

Sydney’s AFL tips betting season looks all but done at 1-5 and their terrible run at home continued. GWS were really set on their heels last week by an aggressive high energy Fremantle outfit. They responded by taking out the local Sydney Derby and getting themselves back on track pushing back up into the top 4.

Both sides lost stars before the game ironically it was the marquee match up with both Lance Franklin and Phil Davis pulling out late due to injuries. This robbed the match of an intriguing battle.

Make no mistake the Swans are in transition, but the inability to compete for longer periods is making the Swans a non competing group relative to years gone by.

The Giants on the other hand have gears, they have an ability to put the foot on the throttle and put a gap between themselves and the opposition. They do this by being tough around the footy and quick transition to their dangerous forwards. The Giants are the real deal seemingly having each part of the ground at a high level. Injuries have always been an issue for this club. They are due for a change of luck they are a side to watch in 2019!

Fremantle home against Bulldogs

300 games is no mean feat and Docker David Mundy showed in his AFL betting tips round 6 clash why he has got to 300 games. He really turned it on in the Dockers 88-69 win to consolidate its position in second spot at 4-2.

So far this season the Dockers have been visible improvers with a good win over the GWS last week away from home. However given they have also lost to the Suns it is hard to make a strong call on where they sit in the competition. All that said its safe to say they are a genuine top 8 chance who now have a good balance of defence and attack in their side.

Their AFL Saturday night opponent the Western Bulldogs are in a real slump despite not playing terrible footy. They have now lost four in a row and have Richmond, Brisbane and Geelong in their next three games so the task doesn’t look easy going forward.

Carlton throws another game away against Hawks

Hawthorn Coach Clarkson pulled a stroke of genius at half time in the AFL betting tips Sunday match in Tassie. The Hawks were 5 goals down and looking a shadow of their former selves. But it was a patch of silence that followed a Clarko prompt of “you’re a bunch of proud men is this how you want to represent yourselves to the AFL world”. He turned it over to the players to ponder at half time, it got the required response the senior players came out breathing fire. Many of the team who had been missing in the first half suddenly started to show the endeavour and intensity required to turn the contest.

Carlton were solid no question and the game was theirs at half time. Even late in the game they fought on bravely to have several inside 50 entries but could not get it done. Bolton would be left wondering what happened. He would be wondering how his side were so good in the first half and then how his side allowed Hawthorn to be better in the second half. Of course it is about momentum and capitalising when you have it. Bolton’s players will learn another hard lesson here.

Cats at home as Gazz puts on Masterclass in front of Class of 2009

Geelong celebrated that AFL tips betting round 6 by hosting their 2009 AFL premiership champs. Gazza put on a masterclass to celebrate the event versus last years Premiers West Coast. Gazza had 28 touches, 2 goals and a number of goal assists in a superb game in a Geelong home win 104-46.

In doing so Geelong responded in its AFL betting tips match at home to reassert themselves as the flag favourites for 2019 and also remind them that GMBHA stadium is a fortress. They have won at home and interstate. They have won twice at the MCG, they have kicked big scores and have won ugly in an impressive start to AFL 2019.

West Coast the defending premiers are under siege. They were the underrated side all last year who were able to sneak under everyone’s guard. However in 12th position sitting 3-3 they are yet to really get their game going. Their ability to kick high scores has been undermined. 4 of their 6 games have scored 69 points or under. This is very much against their regular 100+ points of last year (10 occasions) so they have some work ahead.
