The key here was its fitness profile and its record for the Parks. This was its 4th run back but they had gone 1200 to 1400 back to 1200 meters in the 3 runs leading in. The last 1200m run was a GREAT indicator it was ready, as when these horses at their best distance range (this is 1400) they race on speed and are grabbed late over shorter (1200 last start). This is a good indicator that they have just lost that speed in their legs BUT what it also tells us is they have gained strength. So whilst it may have looked like the horse weakened last start the opposite was true it was actually stronger…just not faster.
