AFL Betting Tips - Thursday night AFL Betting Tips Thursday night – West Coast v Essendon

Our AFL Betting Tips Thursday Night game heads to Perth as West Coast takes on Essendon.

West Coast are back from their weeks break and bye. Last week 4 of the 6 sides that had the break played each other so the result was no guide on the effect of the break. The other two sides who had the break both won but with margins of 3 and 4 points it was hardly conclusive on if the bye is a positive or negative.

The Eagles will be looking to make a bit of a statement as Essendon have beaten them at the last two meetings. Off a break looking to ramp up their second half of the season in their premiership defense the Eagles should come out breathing fire.

Essendon are possibly due for a slide as well they are off a double peak performance with wins against Hawthorn and Carlton the last two games. West Coast have the scoring power to knock over any side in the AFL. They got stung however by 45 points by the Swans before the bye and that will sit in the guts of the Eagles players.

…and the numbers

West Coast is 4-1 and Essendon 3-2 in the AFL last five weeks. Of the head to head games Essendon has won three of the last five including the last two and one of these was in Perth. The last time it was a close one was 2014 in a 77-74 Essendon win. Since then the games have been lopsided either way, the closest being 28 points last year.

The games have not been especially high scoring with an average total game score head to head the last five games of 160 points per game. The high has been 189 points and the low 142 points. Interesting is the last five weeks total game score for each side in the AFL. West Coast has average 92 points and Essendon a low 70 points per game. This is a big change to the Bombers game style from the high scoring free wheeling game style.

Essendon comes off the double game peak performance and we will take West Coast at home looking for a bounce the loss prior the bye.
