AFLĀ Betting Tips – Essendon v GWS Giants
The byes are completed and we are back to the full 9 games in our AFL Betting tips Round 15 action.
The first game is a Thursday night match up at Marvel Stadium as Essendon take on the GWS Giants. When the fixtures were done this would have looked a blockbuster match but the Bombers have had a disappointing year. They will be looking for some sort of redemption here. It was their soulless performance against the Giants in the opening round (smashed by 72 points) that sent them into a spiral.
The Giants come into this on the back of their break and they will be highly tuned to get the second half of their season rolling in the right way. However Marvel is not a stadium they play at all that often and they have put in the odd sub par effort. This is a real test of the stuff the Giants are made of. If they are to be a premiership contender this is the type of game they have to come out and take care of. Essendon were disgraceful last week and will be looking to bounce off that performance and turn that around. This is no doubt a real danger game for the GWS Giants.
AFL Betting Tips…and the numbers
GWS has won four of the last five head to head including importantly round 1 this year in a 112-40 smashing of the Bombers. Last year Essendon had its sole head to head win 95-60. Interestingly, four of the last five head to heads have been in Sydney. Only the one game has been at Marvel which is where we are here. These two last played at Marvel in 2016 in a 117-60 GWS win.
GWS has certainly been able to score against Essendon. They have kicked over 100 points three of the last five times and have an average total points for the last five of 100 points per game. Essendon has been able to score as well but not with the same potency as GWS. The total game score last five between the two has been 177 points with a high of 218 points. The Etihad game between the two was 207 points total.
Speaking of scoring there in is the problem with Essendon. What was a high octane scoring side (albeit free wheeling one way football) is a side that is a former shadow of itself. It has average 68 points per game over the last 7 weeks of AFL and ranks 10 in AFL points for. GWS ranks 3 for points for.
We look for an Essendon bounce here after a shocking game last week on the GWS peak performance.
