AFL Betting Tips – Port Adelaide review

AFL Betting Tips - Port AdelaidePORT ADELAIDE POWER – MORE OF THE SAME

Unfortunately the Port v Bulldogs game was an AFL Betting Tips no bet game as both sides had come off peak performances the week prior. But we were not as convinced as some of Port’s win the week prior. Sure it was a strong win over Geelong but Port had absolutely everything, that’s everything go right. And they won by 11 points. Here was our pre game comments on the Port v Bulldogs game:

“This game has the potential to be a lot closer than a lot of people think, particularly given the Port Adelaide aversion to performing against expectation. We are of the view that Port had everything going right for them last week. The Bulldogs may just bring something here for Port Adelaide to think about”. – Friday Preview Port v Dogs

And so it turned out as Port reverted to the mean. Beat the sides they should not and lose to the sides they should.

Port Coach Hinkley – is he getting the best from this group

Further here is Coach Ken Hinkley’s words at the press conference after the Geelong win: “We can beat any team in the competition”.

We for the life of us do not understand why Ken would come out and say this. There was no need to. They had just beaten the best team in the AFL. That said everything and nothing more needed to be said. We think Hinkley’s statement just adds fuel to the fire of expectation. And in doing so puts his players under pressure of this expectation that clearly they cannot handle. They need an understated Coach not one publicly pumping the expectation.

Port Adelaide fail on expectation again

Port Adelaide failed to play to expectation yet again in our AFL Betting Tips Saturday night game. The question has to be asked as to why Port Adelaide are consistently inconsistent and have been for many years. Port Adelaide have a history of playing well when nothing is expected of them and playing poorly when they are expected to win. It’s the roller coaster ride that Port fans have had enough of. When co captain Tom Jonas said post game “we don’t know what the problem is” you have to wonder what has been happening for the last 5 years under Hinkley that the same problems happen.

Inside 50m conversion a disaster

The other area Port have been poor for a long time and still have not fixed it’s inside 50 conversion. They had 69 inside 50’s for just 5 goals Saturday night. Yes a measly 5 goals. Big questions need to be answered at Alberton. Even worse was at three quarter time Port were 13 points down. They had to create effort and it did not happen. In fact they did not kick a goal in the last quarter. They kicked 0.3 points for the quarter.

Duel captaincy not working

Port were simply not willing to work a lot harder and played as though they were happy with themselves after last weeks win. Instead they should have been demanding of themselves to back that effort up. The other question that needs to be answered at Port Adelaide is the dual captaincy which is not working. Wines and Jonas are not playing well and the leaders need to stand up at Port Adelaide including the coach.

If you want to see leadership, grab a tape of the Marcus Bontompelli first quarter against the Power. He had 12 possessions (11 contested) and was silky smooth and one grab clean. The Bulldogs had lost 4 of their last 5 games but they showed last week a win wasn’t far away with an industrious effort against the Magpies. And Bonompelli’s leadership drove this.

This weeks Showdown versus Adelaide

The lucky thing for Port is they get another go this week. And no better game to have a chance at is the Showdown clash with Adelaide. Strap yourselves in and lets see what we get this week!
