AFL Betting Tips - Round 8 previewAFL Betting Tips Round 8 Game Previews

AFL tips betting Friday night – Sydney Swans versus Essendon

The AFL tips betting round 8 opens up in the Harbour City with the bottom of the table Swans taking on the Bombers at the SCG. Sydney are totally rudderless at the moment being comprehensively beaten in all areas of the game. Their home deck has been far from a happy hunting ground for nearly two years and they are 0-3 at home in 2019. That record doesn’t look much hope to improve here.

Essendon are on a two game losing streak and really had their game style halted by the Cats at the MCG last week. With the exception of a final a few years ago the Bombers generally travel well to Sydney. Even when they weren’t going well they still handled the SCG well.

Sydney are lacking leg speed and that poses a problem as the Bombers are full of top end leg speed. The Swans are really struggling in the midfield as well to win the hard ball conceding 77 inside 50’s to the Lions last week. With an undersized defence against Essendon forward height it’s very difficult to make a case for Sydney. Perhaps they have been so bad they surely have to play better at some point?

AFL tips betting Saturday arvo – Bulldogs v Brisbane

The AFL tips betting Saturday afternoon game 1 really shapes as great contest. This game is played at “home” for the Bulldogs in MARS Stadium Ballarat. This is adding another travel layer for the Lions and it can get icy cold at the ‘Rat”. This is something the Dogs will be looking for to unsettle their northern counterparts.

Both sides are coming off strong wins. The Lions margin against the Swans is not really reflective of the dominance they had in the game with inaccuracy in front of goal was a downside. They sit in fourth spot looking to make it three wins in a row.

The Bulldogs had been threatening a big win like they had against Richmond for some time. They were blue collar against the Dockers and realistically pushed Collingwood to the last three minutes. Last week they were like the Bulldogs of old, tough, quick ball movement and clunking big marks inside 50.

Saturday arvo – Collingwood v Carlton

It’s the old rivals in the AFL tips betting Saturday afternoon clash at the MCG. The form lines between these two goliath clubs could not be more starkly different.

Collingwood have had a brutal draw to begin the season and have stood up to almost every challenge so far looking every part an equal flag favourite. The Blues on the other hand are second bottom and despite patches of “improved performance” it was more of the same last week being beaten by 10 goals by a team who had won one game.

Collingwood are chasing five wins in a row and when you try to find an angle that may make Carlton somewhat competitive, the only aspect we come back to is does Collingwood “breathe out” here. This means this is the first game on paper this year they could look at and think it is an easy win. It has been a big seven weeks of footy and subconsciously there may be some small relaxation.

When you flip it Carlton will have been under the blowtorch all week and nothing would give their fans more joy than a top effort against their old foe. Whilst on paper this game looks a walkover there is some line of thinking to suggest Collingwood turn up not 100% revved and for the Blues to bounce off last weeks loss.

Saturday twilight – Gold Coast v Melbourne

AFL betting tips goes into the twilight zone on Saturday on the Gold Coast where two sides struggling to find consistent form go head to head as the Suns take on Melbourne.

After a 3-1 start to the year the Gold Coast have gone on a three run losing streak but there were a lot better signs in the second half last week against the defending premiers.

The Demons have been the most disappointing side of 2019 but managed to dig deep and fall in against the Hawks last week at the MCG. They may see that as a small spark and an opportunity to put a couple of wins together and get some momentum into a dead season.

The trip to and from the west is not to be underestimated the almost six hour flight each way on the back of a physical hit out for the Suns can take a toll. A home game may just be what they are looking for here. The question for the Demons is do they believe as they have been a side bereft of confidence. The Gold Coast is no walk in the park and the betting market looks far to strongly weighted the demons way.

AFL tips betting  – Saturday evening St Kilda v West Coast

The defending premiers the West Coast Eagles head to Marvel Stadium for the AFL betting tips Saturday night game versus St Kilda.

The Eagles still are yet to hit their straps but the pleasing thing is that despite their patchy form they have their noses ahead in the win loss ledger. The Saints sit on the cusp of the AFL top eight (eigth) and are staring down the barrel of three loses in a row with Collingwood to follow next week.

Alan Richardson will be looking to rediscover the intensity that the Saints were holding for the whole game in the first part of the season. The Saints return to Marvel (only one loss) and they get a real chance to make it a tough game for the Eagles. West Coast are very short in the market for a team that is on the road and playing a side above them

AFL tips betting – Showdown Adelaide Crows v Port Adelaide

Adelaide hosts the AFL tips betting Saturday night Showdown clash between local rivals the Adelaide Crows and Port Power. This is shaping as one of the great Showdowns but it would be hard to beat the two from last year that were both decided by under a kick.

Adelaide has rediscovered some form and they have won three in a row. It is fair to argue they are winning without really getting their game going. There would also have to be some concern about sore bodies and they are on a six day back up out of a physically brutal encounter with the Dockers.

Port Adelaide has been a bit in and out with their form. Their best is good enough but at times they just don’t hold it for long enough. Their last two weeks are far from convincing. They gave up a big lead against the Kangaroos to get in by under three goals. They then failed to turn up in the first quarter against a white hot Collingwood with that first quarter margin being the final buffer.

Then again this is a Showdown and often lead in form can be misleading to this game. Adelaide do look a bit short in the betting in what looks to be a 50/50 game. If Port can convert ruck dominance into clearance dominance then they can win this game. The loss of Jonas and Wines, co-captains does hurt. It shapes as another local classic!

AFL tips betting Sunday early – Geelong v St Kilda

Geelong is flying and they take on the Kangaroos at Marvel in the AFL betting tips early Sunday game. The Kangaroos came out breathing fire and hit Carlton with everything opening up a big lead early and coasting on to a big win.

The Kangaroos have always given the Cats trouble at Marvel Stadium and despite the Cats being top of the AFL premiership table the Kangaroos can compete on some level at their best.

Geelong have been a remarkable story to this point they have looked almost untouchable at times and yet still look like they are playing in second gear!!! It’s the sign of a side in sync and working with one purpose and being in the zone. Cats have been up for a long time and Kangaroos down for a long time. The truth is probably somewhere in between. Intriguing betting contest from a line betting perspective that’s for sure.

AFL Sunday – Hawthorn v GWS

The AFL Betting Tips Sunday game at the MCG is Hawthorn hosting the GWS Giants. On paper its third playing thirteenth but we all know Hawks Coach Clarkson has a knack of executing these style of wins against the odds. He galvanises a group like no other current coach and it’s a big reason for his success.

The Giants have been almost flawless this season and their key forward Jeremy Cameron leads the Coleman. There is no doubt that GWS have had a sustained run of high performance in recent weeks that could be the sign that both a physical and mental dip are on their way. It is possible to maybe rear its head here, they are looking to make it three straight wins and its possible they are unders in the market.

AFL betting tips Sunday twilight – Fremantle v Richmond

The Sunday twilight game for AFL betting tips heads to the west where Fremantle takes on Richmond. Richmond were put to the sword last week by a red hot Bulldogs and the Tigers previous few weeks of a spiked performance came home to roost.

Richmond are one of the rare sides who have a strong record when travelling to the west, and they will be catching the Dockers on a possible slide after being “up” for almost a month of AFL.

Fremantle have been courageous and have really inflicted a ruthless hard edge to their game. This takes a lot of energy to implement and they expended a huge amount of energy in a physically bruising encounter with the Crows last week.

Fremantle are yet to play a poor game this year. When you couple that with a Richmond outfit who were embarrassed we may be looking at a Richmond bounce.
