AFL Betting Tips Round 23 Review

AFL ROUND 23 REVIEW THEN THERE WAS 8

AFL REVIEW ROUND 23

It was enthralling end to the AFL Betting Tips 2019 home and away season for the weekend that was Round 23. Hawthorn threw a cat amongst the pigeons to temporarily move into the AFL top and seemingly looking to have a grip on 8th place after putting paid to West Coast. But the Bulldogs put paid to that blowing a disappointing Adelaide Crows out of the water to firm up an AFL Finals spot. In doing so it made Port Adelaide’s Sunday game against Freo a dead rubber.

Brisbane and Richmond played a beauty at the G in front of 78,000 with the Tigers getting home and these two match up again next week at the Brisbane Gabba. Collingwood and Essendon played a close one with the Pies securing a top 4 spot. They now front up to play Geelong who secured the minor premiership but in doing so play there first final “away” at Collingwood’s MCG home. WTF!!!

West Coast slid down the table after their loss and now have a do or die knock out game against Essendon and GWS had a big win to secure a home final against the Dogs.

For 10 teams its good bye 2019 and onto Mad Monday and season 2020 but for the other 8 sides are still alive and looking for an AFL Grand Final berth and AFL premiership glory.

COLLINGWOOD HOME IN TIGHT ONE OVER BOMBERS

It was a big AFL Betting Tips Friday Night Game as Essendon faced off against Collingwood at the MCG, it was a real dogfight between two sides missing their stars but a great hit out for both sides heading into the AFL Finals series. Collingwood were the big winners here, a win gave themselves a double chance finishing fourth. Essendon finish eighth with the Bulldogs win and they have a big task ahead in week 1 of the AFL Finals as they have to travel West to take on the Eagles.

SYDNEY SWANS HONOUR RETIRING STARS AND BUD

It was a big farewell in our AFL Betting Tips early Saturday game as Jarad McVeigh and Kieran Jack two stalwarts of the Swans footy club hung up the boots and a big celebration for “Buddy” playing his 300th AFL match. That said it’s the first time in 10 years the Swans are not playing AFL Finals. The other question out of this game is what does the loss mean for St Kilda caretaker coach Brett Ratten.

KANGAROOS WIN, DEMONS MORE TROUBLE

Another AFL Betting Tips match that didn’t have any repercussions for the AFL Finals, however a game that just put an exclamation mark on the Demons season which has been nothing short of horrific. Post game Simon Goodwin was amazingly positive about the effort and said they had now “cleansed” themselves and this game was the first step in the path to 2020. You would have to be joking Goody! Rhyce Shaw on the other had has taken North 7 and 5 under his guidance.

GEELONG SECURE MINOR PREMIERSHIP THUMPING THE BLUES

Our AFL Betting Tips twilight game saw the Cats needing a win to secure a top 2 finish for the AFL Finals race and that they did and secured the minor premiership in the process. The win secured the Cats a “home final” although the match will be played at the MCG not their home ground GMHBA Stadium. It was the first real smashing the Blues have had under new coach David Teague. Geelong are now poised for a serious tilt at the AFL Premiership that win boosting their confidence.

GWS GIANTS SECURE HOME FINAL

It was a one sided affair the first of our AFL Betting Tips Saturday night games that saw the GWS Giants pulverise the Gold Coast Suns. The Giants sewed up 6th spot and a home final heading into the AFL finals series 2019. Jeremy Cameron kicked 9 goals to secure himself the 2019 Coleman Medal surpassing Ben Brown. The Giants were dominant over the hapless Suns who have not been up to AFL standard for a lot of the season and the AFL really have some problems to get the Suns back on the radar of relevancy in the comp.

WEST COAST FALL AS HAWKS RISE

The West Coast Eagles hosted Hawthorn in the second of our AFL Betting Tips Saturday night games and let themselves down. “It was a lost opportunity for us tonight and we cant play like that in the AFL Finals” were the words that echoed around the press conference by Eagles coach Adam Simpson. He was left lamenting after they failed to close the door on an AFL top 4 spot and as such dropped to 5thin the AFL Finals. After such a peak effort last week against Richmond the Eagles were lacklustre and looked a long way off a serious challenger.

Alistair Clarkson once again came with a plan and they ambushed the home side as they have regularly done this year (Adelaide, GWS, West Coast). They have missed the AFL top 8 but must be feeling super positive about AFL 2020.  The West Coast take on Essendon in a must win final in week 1 of the AFL finals

THE DOGS HAVE THEIR DAY AS THE CROWS GET THE BOOT

Our early AFL Betting Tips Sunday game saw the Western Bulldogs take on the Adelaide Crows. However any hope of the Crows making the AFL Finals were dead and buried the night prior when Hawthorn won. What a fall from grace the Crows are, really it is a disaster for them with more on the Crows later in the week.

The Bulldogs were on from the get go and their last few weeks of footy has been irresistible kicking high scores and dominating sides on their way to grabbing a spot in the AFL Finals. The win saw the Bulldogs move into 7th spot and will now face off with the Giants in an elimination final at Giants Stadium in Western Sydney a task they will feel they can carry out as it was only 2 weeks ago they chalked up a big win against the orange tsunami in Sydney.

RICHMOND TAKE CARE OF THE LIONS, NOW FOR TAKE 2

Richmond continued their phenomenal run in the back half of the year of the AFL Betting Tips season 2019 with a convincing win over the Brisbane Lions and in doing so moved themselves into 3rd position. It was a massive crowd of 78,00 that watched these two go head to head, AFL Grand Final preview anyone? As the ladder would have it they now take on the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba in week 1 of the AFL Finals!!! Richmond have stormed into outright favourite for the AFL Premiership ($3.10) and they are looking as connected as a team can look.

Brisbane is the fairytale story to rise from 15th to 2nd on the AFL Premiership ladder. They now host a home final at the Gabba and its 2019 season is as good as we have seen from other sides (Bulldogs and Richmond) who went on to win the AFL Premiership.

PORT ADELAIDE WIN AGAIN WHEN IT DOESN’T REALLY COUNT

By the time we got to the final game of our AFL Betting Tips home and away season the AFL Finals had been decided.

So as expected when there was nothing to play for Port Adelaide came out with a strong performance to get it done at home against the Fremantle Dockers. It is a theme that has haunted Port Adelaide for a few years now, their relationship with expectation. When it was there for the taking last week Port Adelaide failed to show up against a side that had kicked just 1 goal in their previous game. We will have more on Port Adelaide later in the week.
