Golden Slipper Update – Sydney Racing Tips
What a day of Racing it was at Rosehill for our Sydney Racing tipsĀ Golden Slipper Day that had a plethora of highlights of Group 1 Racing as part of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. Trainer Chris Waller was the star with 3 Saturday Racing tipsĀ Group 1 winners which included the mighty Winx and James Cummings the hero Trainer of the Golden Slipper winner as the highlights continue as we head toward The Championships fortnight, the pinnacle of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival tips.
Cummings Family Prodigy as they take the Golden Slipper
It has been forty years between drinks, thatās how long its been since the famous Cummings name has appeared in the Golden Slipper honour roll when Bart won the last of his four slippers with Century Miss (1979). To make it a real family affair Kiamichi did what her dad Sidestep had failed to do and won the Sydney Racing tips Golden Slipper for trainer James Cummings.
Kiamichi was awesome as she had obviously thrived since her win in the Magic Knight Stakes. She was tough, jumping from a poor gate led them and kicked and won strongly. She got through the ground so well and for the second year in a row the leader won the Golden Slipper!
Cummings had the quinella with Microphone having a soft run throughout and making ground but the run of the race was Lyre storming home unleashing nice sectionals against the track bias of the day and along with Loving Gaby they showed a win is around the corner.
There were really no excuses for the beaten brigade, Cosmic Force had a soft run may have been ever so slightly held up at 250 but did nothing after that but in conclusion all honours with the winner
James Cummings coming of Age
James Cummings is to be totally commended on how he has handled his time as head trainer for Godolphin. He is calm, professional and his training intellect has obviously been passed on down the genes. It is remarkable to comprehend that by the same age the great Bart Cummings had trained one Group 1 winner and James now has 12 Group 1 winners!
The Sun may be setting on The Autumn Sun
We may well have seen the last of The Autumn Sun, certainly in Australia as it was a dogfight in the Sydney Racing tips Group 1 Rosehill Guineas to win the third time this prep by a small margin. It was a surface that didnāt suit The Autumn Sun and it was one of his best efforts, he won on pure heart alone.Ā It was very reminiscent of Octagonal or Redoutes Choice the way he fought and refused to lose, he has the heart of a lion and all honours with him on Saturday.
He is too valuable to race on and risk defeat, there may be one last roll of the dice overseas but that could be it here in Australia. The Autumn Sun is valued at about $50 Million and John Messara the part owner is very keen to move him on to stud. It makes no sense to race on and risk defeat for such a valuable stud proposition. However the risk to go overseas and try to win has significant upside as he can become a dual hemisphere shuttle stallion and we will watch this space.
In the meantime it would appear that the Sydney Racing tips Doncaster Handicap and AJC Derby may be off the table.
Winx v The Autumn Sunā¦not likely
And you can be sure he certainly wont be taking on Winx in the Sydney Racing tips Queen Elizabeth with John Messara saying āthere is not a horse on the planet that could beat Winx at the momentā and Chris Waller said about the possibility of the pair of them meeting in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes āyou donāt always get the two best teams into the grand finalā. Waller is steering clear form Winx, he should know he trains them both.
Although The Autumn Sun is still favourite for the Sydney Racing tips Doncaster Handicap in three weeks time, we cant see him running and it may be a good time to back some others in the race as they will shorten heavily if he doesnāt race. The Autumn Sun we feel is off to make babies very soon.
Winx the Queen to swansong n the Queen Elizabeth Stakes
It was 32 wins in a row and cool, calm and collected poetry in motion and the mighty mare Winx was simply sensational in the Sydney Racing tips George Ryder Stakes. Hugh Bowman partnering her for the second last time said he ārode her like it was trackworkā and he wasnāt lying he sat deep tracked 7-8 wide on the home turn got a bit busy from the 400 and from the 200 then it was party time as she cruised with ultimate ease to keep the fairytale rolling. Her last run is in a fortnights time in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes and we are going to have a build up like nothing ever seen before In the racing world to farewell the once in a generation champion.
Nature Strip is back and an Overseas trip may be Booked
It was a classic Sydney Racing tips win for Nature Strip at Rosehill who fell in but it was enough to notch his maiden Group 1 in The Galaxy and in doing so gave Chris Waller his third Group 1 for the day after The Autumn Sun and Winx had saluted earlier.
Waller is quite new to Nature Strip and understanding the horse, he was formerly trained by Weir before the scandal. Nature Strip has widely been regarded as the fastest horse in Australia but due to his keenness on race day he has bought himself undone as witnessed in the Oakleigh Plate last start at Caulfield where he led and burnt and was run over the top of the last 100m.
There is still some tricks to Nature Strip and he is somewhat of a Jekyll and Hyde. He loses the plot a bit on race day and that will be the aspect Waller will be working on the most in the lead up to the Sydney Racing tips TJ Smith Stakes in a couple of weeks as part of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
Waller also mentioned that Nature Strip may head to Royal Ascot mid year to contest the 1000m race fresh and could be the ideal travelling companion for The Autumn Sun should the Colt head overseas. It is fair to say that trip in and of itself could mature Nature Strip into the champion he shapes to be.
Avilius a 3 Star Best Bet Winner
Avilius was an iTipsports Sydney Racing tips 3 Star Best Bet winner for subscribers Saturday and was simply superb in turning around its terrible run in the Australian Cup to win the Ranvet at Rosehill racecourse Saturday.
In doing so it confirmed James Cummingsā suspicions that it was just one of those bad days that can happen to any horse. Settling near the tail he defied a heavy front runners bias for the day by showing a quick turn of foot but it was the way he drew away that was full of authority.
Cummings is very keen to give the horse a break as he realises there are Spring Racing Carnival riches that await with no Winx to contend with and he will either back Avilius up next week in the Sydney Racing tips Tancred Stakes or send him out to the paddock and get him ready for a Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival that from what we saw on Saturday would most definitely incorporate a shot at the Cox Plate.
If there is any query on Avilius it may be the Melbourne way of going, he certainly seems to appreciate racing on his āSydney legā as he is unbeaten in the Harbour City Our gut feeling is that backing up next week may be to hard for Cummings to resist as he would be going to the paddock Monday anyway.
