CARLTON – ARE THE NAVY BLUES ABOUT TO AWAKE FROM THE SLUMBER?

Carlton FC looking to make the 8 in 2022
PREDICTION 8TH WITH 12 WINS

2021 FINISHED 13th  8 WINS 14 LOSSES

We look at the Carlton Football Club and what is possibly in store for the AFL team known as the Blues in our AFL season preview 2022. Changes aplenty at Carlton as the coaching revolving door continues at the Blues and they look to an AFL great to get Carlton out of the doldrums. Carlton without doubt is of recent times the Melbourne based AFL teams most underperformed side. We look at the AFL Betting prediction for Carlton as we continue the AFL 2022 season previews.

Has the slumber ended and this will be the question on the lips of the AFL world. Carlton appears to have the list to improve but there has been key elements off field that have hampered them for a LONG time.

Lyon to Clarkson and finally to Voss

Even in the off season Carlton looked like amateurs as they set about appointing their new coach. It was played out poorly in the public arena when it looked like Ross Lyon was their man. He pulled out the consensus was Clarkson had the job. This turned out not to be and Michael Voss was appointed, quite obviously not their first choice.

CEO Cook to steady ship

That said it was hopefully a BIG learning experience for new president Luke Sayers who has had a successful business life but this doesn’t always transition to the footy world. However with the appointment of Brian Cook as the CEO Carlton seem to have important pillars in the club with the right people. Cook is a cool head who has a terrific record of both on and off field success at Geelong. He has a great ability to connect a club with its fans and the Navy army are so desperate to once again embrace their great club.

Michael Voss has a great opportunity here as Carlton really have all the ingredients. They showed this time after time over the last 2 years by playing 3 quarters of good footy then being blown away in a quarter. This could be a leadership issue (which has been lacking for some time) along with a maturing list finding a consistent level of play. If there is one area Michael Voss can improve it could be personal responsibility for performance he can allow them to find the confidence to give it all as this is what winners do.

A fit Charlie Curnow will be a big addition for the Blues who have now also found a big key target forward with Harry McKay taking the Coleman Medal last year. A big area for Voss to cover will be the key defensive post vacated by the unvaccinated Liam Jones. Although much maligned for the odd mistake he was a key intercept defender, finding the player to go tandem with Weitering is an issue. Carlton have also added the big off season recruit from the Dockers Adam Cerra to really lend some great midfield support to Cripps and the young gun Sam Walsh. We think the recipe is now right for a lift from the Blues.
