AFL tips betting Friday night – Collingwood versus Port
Our Friday night AFL tips betting contest is a classic match up as Collingwood take on Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium. Although Collingwood are more renowned at the MCG, they have won their last five matches at Marvel Stadium so the ground will hold no fears for them.
Port Adelaide on the other hand have recently suffered some poor defeats at the venue winning only one of their last three at Marvel (North Melbourne) and suffering consecutive defeats to Essendon at an average margin of 46 points.
Both of these sides are coming off wins. Collingwood were engaged in a much higher intensity match than Port Adelaide last week and at times this can bring a harder edge to the team. Port Adelaide will need to bring intensity for a full four quarters, not only three like they did against the Kangaroos last week.
Something that will give Port Adelaide confidence is if they can reproduce their speed of ball movement that Essendon had in the ANZAC Day game. It will bring some real trouble for the Pies, Collingwood have had a big six weeks of footy and one wonders whether their second half fadeout was a result of fatigue.
One thing is for sure their running ability will be tested by Port Adelaide on Friday night, it shapes as a ripping contest. No Robbie Gray hurts poor without doubt, out for a month with a broken hand.

AFL Saturday Melbourne versus Hawthorn
Saturday AFL betting tips heads to the MCG where the struggling Demons take on the Hawks. It has been the season to forget for Demons fans and we are only a third of the way through it.
Hawthorn was lucky to escape from jail last week after being in cruise mode early and gave away a six goal lead to the Blues. They eventually scraped home by 5 points and their form has been patchy all year. At 3-3 if they are looking to push their way into the AFL top 8 this is a game they must win.
Melbourne are sure to rediscover their form at some stage and it may very well be here. After all they have had a good record against the Hawks versus ladder position. There has been a 10 day break for the Demons as well and maybe this is just the gap they need in order to sort their “inner demons”.
AFL Saturday – GWS versus St Kilda
The Saturday AFL tips betting match from Canberra is between St Kilda and GWS. Saint Kilda was bought back to earth with a thud last week losing their first game at home. Their defence really struggled at times and Saints Coach Alan Richardson will need to tighten this up as his side battle the Coleman Medal leader in Jeremy Cameron.
The Giants were very strong in defeating Sydney last week and really went through the gears in the second half to pull away for a strong win. That is probably the most impressive aspect to the Giants style of play. They seem to have ability to switch gears when required as they have great stoppage work , strong leg speed and a really dominant forward line. We can expect a Saint Kilda bounce here after their defeat last week against a very strong Giants.
AFL Saturday twilight – Brisbane versus Sydney
The Saturday twilight AFL betting tips match is the Brisbane Lions hosting the Sydney Swans at the GABBA. The Lions are looking to beat Sydney for the first time in 10 years (round 22 2009). It has never looked more likely a proposition then it does in this game with Sydney missing Buddy again. Sydney are playing like a side bereft of belief and confidence in what they are trying to achieve.
Brisbane on the other hand were able to arrest back to back beltings with a nice win of their own in the Q clash. Effectively this is their third week in a row without needing “significant” travel (home then Gold Coast and now home again). This should really help with preparation as they will have ben able to get a good balance between training loads and recovery without having to travel.
Brisbane will be looking to appease their home supporter base as well after selling out the Gabba on the Good Friday Eve game. That was against Collingwood and the Lions were beaten badly. A side sitting 4-2 with dreams of the top 8 simply need to win these sort of games. We are feeling the Swans may be able to find a way to bring it into a real scrap and give themselves a hope.
AFL Saturday night – Marvel Stadium Bulldogs v Richmond
Saturday night AFL tips betting heads to Marvel Stadium where two contrasting form lines meet head to head. Richmond is looking to make it 4 wins in a row and the Western Bulldogs are staring down the barrel of 5 straight losses.
The matches between these two sides are historically close (Richmond winning their last contest by 3 points) but the deciding average margin in the last 5 games is about 3 goals.
Richmond has bounced back nicely from losses to Collingwood and GWS to win three in a row despite a spate of injuries. The Bulldogs on the other hand have been industrious without success. The Carlton game exception they really have been in with a winning chances. No question accuracy in front of goals is hurting them. This shapes as a closer game than many may think and its likely the Tigers will be due for a dip after three strong weeks
AFL Saturday night – West Coast v GWS
Our other Saturday Night AFL betting tips match is West Coast hosting the Gold Coast Suns. The defending premiers are really struggling to get their game going. You know things are not going great when their coach Adam Simpson labelled them lacking desire in back to back weeks. If any week was the one to get the Eagles rolling it has to be here they have an average winning margin of 59 points at home against the Suns.
The Gold Coast however will be looking for some sort of redemption with back to back hidings at the hands of the Crows and the Lions. Dew will want to ensure that these losses don’t linger and that they are not regarded as the “easybeats”. West Coast has lost 11 of their last 12 quarters and were comprehensively smashed last week by Geelong.
AFL Sunday game 1 – Kangaroos versus Carlton
The first of three AFL tips betting Sunday games is the battle between the Kangaroos (17th ) and Carlton (15th).
Big margins are littered through recent history with three of the last four games being decided by a greater than 10 goal margin. Carlton cost themselves again last week they have thrown away many chances this year. There is no question they are stringing longer passages of games together better than they have in recent years.
The Kangaroos are a real basket case at the moment. Brad Scott will be hoping his sides last quarter (kicked the last 4 goals) may just give them some much needed momentum into this clash. Carlton have been playing above expectation in all of those games and arguably should be 3-3. There is every possibility the Kangaroos can surprise and bounce here despite the very strong form of Carlton.
AFL tips betting Round 7 – Match of the Round Geelong v Essendon
Make sure you strap yourself in for an AFL tips betting classic as Essendon take on the top of the table Geelong at the MCG.
Geelong have had a ruthless season without too many hiccups. Gary Ablett has hit some dominating form and the message is well and truly out. Geelong is the team to beat.
After a terrible start to the season losing their first two games the Bombers have gone on a dominant run of footy winning three in a row. They also just fell short in the big ANZAC DAY game against Collingwood. After being 6 goals down they showed a lot of ticker as their “rip, shit, bust” uptempo style of attacking football got rolling. They were able to “open” the ground up and the expanses of the MCG became theirs.
The Bombers stunned the Cats in the corresponding game last year. But things are very different now and the Cats really look crystal clear on their individual role. Geelong look to all be on the same page and they are playing like men possessed. There seems to be a renewal purpose about them.
Essendon a big recovery from 0-2 start
All credit to the Bombers and in particular the solidarity of their coach John Worsfold who was attacked from every direction after a disaster start. Worsfold stood strong and kept an even demeanour, showed real trust and belief in his group and they have repaid him handsomely.
Essendon are the classic example of chaos footy hi octane break neck speed (aka rip, shit, bust). Essendon’s run can be hard to counter and that will be the key aspect to this game. Can Geelong do what Collingwood failed to do for 2.5 quarters last week…slow the Bombers down.
Essendon has had a 10 day break into this game and it can really unbalance the players “rhythm” to have such a long break between combat. When you couple this with the likelihood the Bombers are due to drop their rating soon this could be a nice Cats position.
AFL Sunday – Adelaide Crows versus Fremantle
Our final game of the AFL tips betting round is two sides in nice form as Adelaide host the Dockers. The Crows are looking to win three on the trot as are the Dockers who also put in a very brave effort three weeks ago in their local Derby versus West Coast.
The question is does Adelaide have their ball movement back? The last two weeks have seen them really take the game on and use more leg speed with the ball. This has enabled the forward line to start getting dangerous, something that looked a long way off in the first four weeks of AFL.
The Dockers are a reinvented force and the previous stilted side now has brilliant leg speed. They no longer are worried to move the ball quickly as they have some real forward talent that is delivering.
This battle will be as they say won in the midfield. You get the feeling the side that wins the contested and clearance count will go a long way to winning the match as they both have lethal forward lines. You question whether Fremantle is “overachieving” at the moment and as a result the Crows will look to move toward the AFL top 8 if results go their way.
