AFL 2020 GEELONG FOOTBALL CLUB
2019 FINISHED 1st HOME AND AWAY 16 Wins and 6 Losses
GEELONG FOOTBALL CLUB AN IMPOSTER OR CHALLENGER?
The Cats are an enigma for AFL Betting Tips as they are an enigma in the competition like no other team. It is challenging to get the read on them, they finished top at the end of the home and away last year won a final (at the MCG still not given the deserved “Home Final”). However losing to the eventual premiers Richmond. Geelong played their season in two halves last year when they went 11-1 and at the bye and were the short priced flag favourites. However they were a shadow of their former selves in the back half of the year losing 5 of 10 and headed into the finals as one of the sides in bad form despite being the minor round premier!!
Geelong Cats – kicking goals is good football
One of the reasons Geelong were SO dominant in the first half of the year last year was their goal kicking accuracy. It was 67% and an historical high so they won a lot of games by simply being ahead of the “norm” in conversion. However as this stat dried up so did their win/loss and they looked like a team under the pump.
In the off season Geelong recruited Josh Jenkins to give the Tomahawk Hawkins some more up the ground freedom and this is a positive. However one of the concerning areas is the loss of Tim Kelly who is a dead set A Grader. Although they picked up Jack Steven from St Kilda as coverage he has some personal hurdles to overcome.
In truth Geelong were not as good as they were at the start of the year in 2019 and not as bad as they were later. We think they are somewhere in the middle of that, so we are tipping a slide to just outside the Top 4 in 2020. This is consistent with recents seasons and a continuation of Coach Scotts horrible finals record since the 2011 AFL Premiership.
2020 PREDICTION – GEELONG 5th 14 WINS

AFL 2020 GOLD COAST SUNS
2019 FINISHED 18th 3 Wins 19 Losses
GOLD COAST SUNS – A LONG SEASON AHEAD…AGAIN
It was a season to forget from the Gold Coast Suns in AFL Betting Tips 2020. It started out in a promising fashion, losing their opener top St Kilda by a point then winning 3 in a row. But that would be it as they wouldn’t taste success again losing 18 matches in a row.
Stuart Dew is now in his 3rd season with the Suns and it is now we have to start getting an indication as to what the Suns are all about. If anything they are fly by the seat of your pants run and gun with no depth of defence and lack of big leadership. In their defense, they are paying for the mistakes of the past in recruiting and just cannot keep talent. The likelihood is they never will so send them to Tasmania NOW we say!
Gold Coast Suns – promising talent
The off season has been promising, recruiting premiership defender from Richmond Brandon Ellis and Adelaide’s Hugh Greenwood. They also had a priority pick and the Suns had picks 1 and 2 at the Draft securing (1) Matt Rowell and (2) Noah Anderson to go with their 3 Top 10 picks from last year in Lukosius, Rankine and King.
Talent is one thing and getting it to perform consistently week in week out can be hard until that talent becomes seasoned and confident. The problem with the Suns is they will be questioning whether they belong at this level, with this lack of self belief the desire to do what’s required can wane,
Dew has a big task on his hands to keep this side believing, but on the flip side of that if they do manage to get themselves up and going the sheer abandon of youth can be promising.
2020 PREDICTION – GOLD COAST 18th 4 wins
