AFL Tips 2019 – Season Preview – GWS Giants

Fe Fi Fo Fum are the GWS Giants Done

AFL tips at iTipsports features all 18 teams in our FREE AFL Season Bonus Preview that will outline their fortunes for 2019 from our expert AFL tips analysis and introduces our method of AFL betting analysis the HBM Human Behaviour Model.

Our twelfth team we analyse for the AFL tips and betting in the AFL 2019 season is GWS Giants.

Giants Outshine the Suns

When you compare what the GWS Giants have been able to achieve in comparison to their counterpart the Gold Coast Suns you really have to take your hat off to the organisation for getting a lot of things right.

Despite injuries and player raids the GWS Giants have managed to butter up year after year, the last few to be serious players in AFL Finals action in September. Again last year they were 2 kicks away from a AFL Prelim Final after a year wrecked by injuries and suspension to star players.

Lost Talent, can they retain an AFL Finals Position

The question again will be asked how the Giants can still perform week in week out with the calibre of player that left in the off season. Dylan Shiel, Tom Scully and Rory Lobb are all marquee players who have departed in the off season and real keys to the engine room for the Giants.

The Giants make the 8, we don’t see that being the issue but after 3 years of 2 AFL Prelim Finals and a semi final do they have what it takes to go the next step? Million dollar question and the answer is probably not.

First thing is first the Giants need to get back to playing their style of footy, “the orange tsunami” was stagnant in the first half of last year and it wasn’t until a cut throat bruising encounter with the crows at Adelaide Oval that they really started to get their game going and the season got rolling for them.

Tougher and Stronger

One thing that has improved immeasurably about the Giants is their toughness and desire to be defensive around the footy. Yes the orange tsunami may look like hard offensive running (which it is) but its on the back of some strong defensive play and this will hold them in good stead going forward.

The ruck is probably looking the biggest vulnerability at the Giants this year. Shane “Mummy” Mumford has returned from retirement (along with other partying escapades) to join the ruck division however the club have imposed a 2 game ban for the “snorting video” and at his age on the back of injuries it would be difficult to see him being the menacing ruckmen he was 2 years ago. And with Lobb now gone it leaves Dawson Simpson as the key ruck stock. This is an issue for Leon Cameron to try and address.

With the departures in the off season and the need to swing some movement through the positions on the ground it may take the Giants a few weeks to get themselves rolling. That being said if they get there we get the feeling they have the capabilities to do some real damage again.

Although the Giants bump into the Tigers, Hawks and Bombers twice they have garnered a relatively nice draw for AFL tips ands betting season 2019.

Are the Giant done??? We don’t think so but be on the look out over the shoulder from August onwards as they make their run!!
