From a betting perspective it was a successful and winning season in footy tipping AFL 2016.
In our AFL betting handicap (also referred to as line betting) we had 58% win rate. If you had an even stake $100 on every bet you would have had a profit of $1800 or a 16% return on invested funds.
In our AFL betting win only bets, we had very few bets. We just didn’t see the value in many games and $1.20 favorites are not our cup of tea. Whilst our win rate was only 30%, the ave odds of our winners were $5.50. If you had have had $20 on each of our win bets, you would have outlayed $340 for a profit of $210 or 62% return.
The AFL has a surprisingly low number of longshot winners so we were pleased with this result in our AFL betting tips on win bets.

Round 24 home and away bye upsets the apple cart!
The 2016 was a season without precedent in that for the first time a bye was introduced the week before the finals. The result of this was a team from outside the top 4 won the premiership for the first time since 1997. Only one of the GF spots was filled by top 4 sides and top 4 side Hawthorn was bundled out in straight sets.
Without doubt, the bye served the Western Bulldogs better than any other team. Had the bye not existed, the Bulldogs would have had 5 key players not available for the first week of the finals. They became available with a week off!
The Bulldogs then delivered a finals campaign rarely, if ever seen. Perth in the last home and away game, then back to Perth, reigning premier Hawthorn at the G, GWS away and then Sydney at the G on GF day was the campaign. They won in emphatic style. High intensity and pressure was the hallmark of their game coupled with a get out of jail in tight handball release style of play.
Can they do it again? Their Coach Luke Beveridge coaching record would say yes. They are a young side with upside. Emotions were high for the first flag win since 1954. Can they keep them in check? Time will tell and this game is played 80% above the shoulders!
It was a devastating 2017 loss for Sydney. It was set up for them to win but it was a poor loss. The much vaunted midfield, except the brilliant Josh Kennedy did not deliver. Tippett is a liability. Buddy is good but one dimensional now. But they have been resilient for so long they could bounce back but the GF loss can take its toll!
The 2017 year is set up for GWS, we just hope the young bucks don’t get ahead of themselves. Brilliant young side full of talent, the Prelim loss may well be the making of them. Should be in the GF in 2017.
The Hawks must be on the downslide although the recruiting of O’Meara could turn out to be a brilliant coup. The loss of Mitchell and Lewis is a massive loss in talent and leadership. Hodge, Burgyone and Gibson, all warriors must nearly be done but they are the masters of free agency though, we will give them that.
So to the 2017 season..
Each year two drop out of the top 8 and two make it that did not the previous year.
