Golden Rose Stakes – Sydney Spring Racing Carnival

Historically it has really been regarded as the flagship race for the Sydney Spring Racing Tips Carnival prior to the “re jigging” of the Carnival. However the race still holds a dominant position in the Sydney Spring Racing landscape. It’s the first 3yo Group 1 of the new racing season and owners and trainers chase it strongly hoping to secure lucrative stud deals should they be successful. The race was won last year by brilliant 3 year old The Autumn Sun.

Sydney Spring Racing Carnival – reconfigured

In the newly configured Sydney Spring Racing Tips Carnival this race now plays a significant part in a massive $5 Million as the middle leg of what is now known as the “Golden Slam”. This bonus is available to any horse who wins the Golden Slipper as a 2YO the Golden Rose as a 3YO and the Golden Eagle as a 4YO.

Being such a lucrative race horses descend from everywhere which can make it very difficult to line up the form however there are a couple of key points to keep in mind, the most successful lead in race over the years has been the Run To The Rose, horses coming through this race have the best record, however another important stat to take note of is that over the last 10 years a last start winner has won the Golden Rose so giving winning form a bonus is key.

The Sydney Racing Tips Golden Rose Stakes Day is part of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. It is a feature race day and also carries a terrific support program with 2 Group 2’s and Two Group 3’s

Sydney Racing Tips – Golden Pendant

The Golden Pendant formerly known as the Research Stakes is a group 2 race for Fillies and Mares run at set weights and penalties over 1200m. Generally if a horse is not first up in this race they would have had a lead in through the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes earlier on in the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival this race with the weight conditions can tend to lend itself to a horse on the way up who hasn’t quite received its “true” weight penalty yet.

Sydney Racing Tips – Shannon Stakes

The Shannon Stakes is a quality handicap run over 1500m whilst it doesn’t tend to attract the absolute A graders (just the notch below) this race does carry a very important bonus in winning it gives exemption from ballot and weight penalty for the Group 1 Epsom. So historically some trainers have used this race as the “back door” into the Epsom should they have an up and comer on their hands. Horses who complete in this event generally continue with some success over the middle distance races over the Melbourne and Sydney Spring Racing Carnivals.

Sydney Racing Tips – Gloaming Stakes

The Gloaming Stakes is a very important race for the progressive staying 3 year olds. It’s a set weights race over 1800m but historically has given us a good indication of the chances in the really big races like the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes run over the Sydney Racing Tips Spring Carnival but also the Victoria Derby, So You Think actually won this race and then ended up going on to win the Cox Plate in its 3 YO year so it is an important race to pay attention to.

Sydney Racing Tips – Colin Stephen Quality

The Colin Stephen Quality is an open handicap held over 2400m and has historically been the key lead in race to the Group 1 Metropolitan Handicap later on in the Sydney Racing Tips Spring Carnival. There was a real spate of winners of this race going on to win the Metropolitan between 1996 and 2005. Seven horses did the double and whilst the double hasn’t been achieved for a while this still holds the key form lines to the Metropolitan Handicap and the winner of this race is exempt from ballot.
