Our man Expert Adelaide Racing Tips analyst Value Victor is the best in the business. So why did Value Victor have only one selection in the race and how was it marked $3.20 top pick? There are a few things to unpack in this question. Firstly the race profile was one of horses with “convictions” meaning all competitors had obvious shortcomings that left them vulnerable in the race making it a “tricky race”. The key to doing form in these races is to look for aspects of the race that may present a strong opportunity for improvement in this race.
Mystyko was really the ONLY horse that met the criteria. It had a MASSIVE drop in grade as it had been competing in black type Melbourne class races dropping back to a rating 86 but in reality the race quality looked a rating 78 so BIG drop. It was having its 5th run back from a spell so peak fitness is pretty much guaranteed.
The horse had the blinkers added meaning the trainer felt the time was now or never for improvement. This was further enhanced in the fact that the country trainer was venturing to SA and the horse had a nice 1200m record. The conviction on this horse was its run of outs, last win was in March 2019. However as convictions go it was the least concerning when compared to the convictions of the rest of the field particularly with the other elements lining up so well.
As a result we had it top pick expecting a very nice improvement against market expectations and peeled at top of straight and put them away winning by 3 lengths
