Brisbane Racing Stradbroke Review

There was a half length separating the first 4 runners in a brilliant running of the Brisbane Racing Tips Stradbroke last Saturday at Eagle Farm. In the Tyzone made amends for last years minor placing by unleashing a powerful wide sustained run to get up narrowly in a four way go that included our top selection and 25-1 each way chance Nicconova.

Tyzone bought up the First group 1 win for trainer Toby Edmonds and the first Qld Group 1 win for Jockey Robbie Fradd from South Africa. Tyzone had the wide gate in the Stradbroke but Fradd made the cool decision to go back to second last and be one off. He took off at the 600m with 3 wide cover however the horse was going so well he hooked him out 10 deep no cover on  the turn to come with his charging run. Niconova who ran well, you could argue if it had of drawn a gate it could have won.

Connections put all their eggs in the “go forward” basket with the race fav Dawn Passage and as a result used some fuel early to get into an on speed position. The 3yo was found wanting when the big time pressure of an open aged Group 1 went on and faded to finish seventh. No question the unlucky runner out of the race was Kementari. The horse had a beautiful run on the fence midfield and looked to be absolutely bolting on the turn. However hit a brick wall every time it went for a run in the straight. He was beaten 4.8 lengths but arguably should’ve been in the finish and very unlucky.

Spring Racing Carnival awaits Rothfire dominant

Rothfire left them all in his wake with a devastating turn of speed that put his rivals away in the blink of an eye in the Brisbane Racing Tips JJ Atkins. The horse had won 5 of 6 going into the weekend but it seemed the only defeat he had (Jewel at the Gold Coast). Rothfire was a big market drifter before he came out and pulverised them in the Group 1 JJ Atkins. Jockey Jimmy Byrne looked like he wanted the front however when they booted up to hold him Rothfire settled beautifully into a trailing position and was produced at the right time for a big win.

Everest bound Rothfire

The big question is where does he go now. The Everest has been spruiked by connections and given that Yes Yes Yes did it as a 3YO the path to glory has already been paved. Trainer Robbie Heathcote says its not beyond him backing it up with the fact that his former multiple group 1 winner Buffering was not in Rothfire’s class at this age. Sure the Everest has to be a discussion, but so does planning a pure 3 year old campaign. Being a gelding Rothmore does not have the big stallion payday that was afforded to Yes Yes Yes and he is a racehorse only so they need to think a little longer term about his future as well. The Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival awaits.
