The Moir Stakes will be held Friday night 29 September at Moonee Valley Racecourse as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. It is a Group l sprint race over 1200m and is worth $500,000 in prizemoney, Runners in the Moir Stakes have an eye on other big sprint races in the Carnival including the Manikato Stakes and VRC Sprint Classic.

Underwood Stakes – Sunday 1 October, Caulfield Racecourse
The Underwood Stakes will be held at Caulfield Racecourse on Sunday 1 October, the day after the AFL Grand Final. The race is held over a distance of 1800m and is a Group 1 race with total prizemoney of $750,000. The Underwood Stakes is a traditional lead up race to the major races of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, in particular for the Caulfield Cup 2017 and WS Cox Plate 2017. Black Heart Bart was the winner of the Underwood Stakes last year and other recent winners are It’s A Dundeel 2013, So You Think 2010, Northerly 2001-02, Tie The Knot 1998 and Octagonal 1996.
