Melbourne Racing tips – All Star Mile
This is Victorias attempt to gain relevance back in the Racing landscape. Sydney has hijacked Melbourne’s dominance on the racing scene when they launched The Everest, an amazingly successful concept that in a very short space of time has taken a lot of media focus away from the Melbourne Racing Carnival’s and very quickly turned the tables of public interest toward Sydney Racing.
The VRC were not going to sit on their hands and quietly roll over so this year they have launched the Melbourne Racing tips All Star Mile to run in the middle of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and going head to head with the Coolmore Classic.

Sydney Racing tips – Coolmore Classic
The Coolmore is a Sydney Racing tips race over 1500m Group 1 contest run at Rosehill racecourse for fillies and mares. The best female sprinter/milers assemble to gain group 1 glory. It is not a set weights race so the handicap conditions allow for a great sized field and makes for a really good betting race due to so many chances.
The race has had some superstar winners including Sunline, Emancipation and Appearance who took out the race in 2013 in a stunning field. This is a race that you do need to show respect to the fillies, they have won it 30% of the time over the last three decades generally suited under the handicap conditions.
It is tricky to find the key lead in race as they do come from everywhere but the fillies who come through the Surround Stakes normally run well although group races in Flemington also have success. Its generally a good race to risk the favourites as only nine favourites have won in the last 35 years so it can be a good ploy to work around the favs.

Sydney Racing tips – Phar Lap Stakes
The Phar Lap Stakes is named in honour of Australia’s greatest racehorse and is a very important Sydney Racing tips event as part of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
It is a Group 2 race for 3 year olds over the 1500m and is a set weight race where the colts carry 56.5 and the fillies 54.5.
Because It is a set weight race the quality of horse flesh contesting is generally of the highest order as they seek to compete against others without the hefty imposts of handicapping. This race is a pathway to many options over the Sydney carnival ranging from the Rosehill Guineas to the Doncaster the Vinery Stud Stakes or even the ATC Oaks. The great mare Winx won this race in 2015 as a 3yo filly, so yes it’s a quality race!!
Sydney Racing tips – Pago Pago Stakes
This Sydney Racing tips race is named after the 1963 Golden Slipper Winner is a Group 3 Race for 2yo colts and geldings and is somewhat of a “last chance saloon” for horses looking to get into the Golden Slipper Stakes.
Given it’s the last roll of the dice for horses to gain entry into the Golden Slipper this generally means that the horses “intended” program hasn’t gone as well as expected and as such the Pago Pago winner traditionally does not perform well in the Golden Slipper the following week.
In fact only Stratum (2005) has completed the Pago Pago/Slipper double in recent times with only 2 other horses doing the double (Inspired 1984 and the great Rorys Jester 1985).
Hightail and Cosmic Force are the two equal favs for the Sydney Racing tips Pago Pago followed by Born a Warrior and Foretti at $5.50.
Sydney Racing tips – Magic Knight Stakes
This Sydney Racing tips race is named after the 1961 Golden Slipper Winner is a Group 3 Race for 2yo fillies and exactly like the colts division is somewhat of a “last chance saloon” for horses looking to get into the Golden Slipper.
As with the Pago Pago this race traditionally hasn’t produced the Golden Slipper winner in fact the most recent was Bint Marscay (1993) and although Sunlight went close last year it hasn’t been a great lead in. The double has been completed 5 times Toy Show (1975) Century Miss (1979) Dark Eclipse (1980) Bounding Away (1986) and Bint Marscay.
It is also worth noting that horses have come through this race and been successful in the Sires Produce and the Champagne stakes over the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
Athiri is the current fav for the Sydney Racing tips Magic Knight at $4 with Probabeel at $5.50 and Villani at $6.
