BRISBANE WINTER RACING CARNIVAL – WRAP REVIEW
The 2019 Brisbane Racing Tips Winter Carnival is now behind us and it has really unearthed some horses to follow in the upcoming Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival and the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.
The Melbourne and Sydney Spring Racing Carnival’s will be like no other with Sydney offering serious competition. $45 million of prize money in the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival headlined by the $14 million The Everest and the $7.5 Million Golden Eagle. Of course the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival will continue to deliver world class Racing. The Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup will continue to be the sought after Group races despite what Sydney throw up.
The Brisbane Racing Carnival has traditionally been a great lead up to the Spring as the horses who race there generally spell here and do well in the warm weather. They don’t need to be spelled for as long to get the same results which means they lose less fitness allowing them to come to hand more quickly.
Lets look at some of the horses to follow over the up coming Melbourne Racing Tips and Sydney Racing Tips Spring Carnivals.
Futures Market Betting
Melbourne Racing Tips and Sydney Racing Tips futures markets betting is not for the faint hearted. The reward is the increased betting odds that you can get in the early markets to get set for the big Spring Racing Carnival action. The downside is that if your selections do not run, you do not get your investment refunded. So there in lies the dilemma. If investing into futures markets ensure you invest to a betting bank and a staking plan to make your investment modest.
Brisbane Racing Tips – Winter Carnival Stars
Kiwi who has had dominant carnival winning back to back Group 1 sprints (Doomben Cup and Kingsford Smith). Started fav in the Stradbroke and didn’t have a lot of luck early or in the straight and probably only battled when clear. But there is no doubt this horse could be a serious chance in the Sydney Racing Tips The Everest should connections gain a slot. There is wheeling and dealing done over the next couple of months to see if it can get a start.
Target Race – The Everest $21
A real revelation over the Brisbane Racing Tips Winter Carnival winning the Doomben Cup (2000m) and backing it up with the P.J O’Shea Stakes (2200m). This is after winning the Group 1 Coolmore over the Sydney Racing Tips Autumn Carnival. It’s a big thrill for connections who were considering the breeding barn after the suspension of former trainer Darren Weir but Ciaron Maher who had a sensational Winter Carnival really has her rolling. Maher is spelling her in Brisbane and then targeting the Caulfield Cup ($21) and perhaps even the Cox Plate ($41) should she take the next step.
Target Race(s) – Caulfield Cup $21, Cox Plate $41
He only came to town for the one run over the Brisbane Racing Tips Winter Carnival but what an effort it was. The Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600M) was the target and at just his 5th run he destroyed them and gave every indication he has stallion pedigree. He has a lot of “furnishing” to do in his spell and will come back an even better proposition in the Spring. Anthony Cummings is targeting the Golden Rose ($15) on the way to the Caulfield Guineas (no price yet. If it measures up possibly the Cox plate ($34) as a 3yo but with the Sydney Racing Tips Spring Carnival really changing shape Cummings has so many more options at his disposal.
Target race(s) – Golden Rose $15, Caulfield Guineas TBC, Cox Plate TBC
The one time fav for the Brisbane Racing Tips Stradbroke Handicap connections were patient and took a couple of steps back after the horse had a minor virus. Watch for this horse to make a late charge to Sydney Racing Tips The Everest. There are still 7 of 12 slots up for grabs and if he can produce a nice run early in the campaign slot holders will be jostling to get him in their barrier. The other very possible path for this horse is the Golden Eagle, the new $7.5 million race for 4yo’s over 1500m he is currently $6 equal third fav.
Target Race(s) – Golden Eagle $6, The Everest (TBC)
Had a solid Autumn/Winter Carnival travelling from Melbourne to Adelaide (fav in the S.A. Derby) ending up in Brisbane for the Queensland Derby. He was heavily backed in the betting and duly saluted. Trained by Phillip Stokes it gave him his first Group 1 out of his Pakenham base and is horse is also syndicated by former Black Caviar trainer Peter Moody. The horse is capable of a Caulfield Cup effort (equal second pick $17) however knowing these horsemen they will make him earn it so look to some of the lower races leading up. Look for him in the Country cups if they go conservative.
Target Race – Caulfield Cup $17
A really interesting runner, he was a very “in and out” customer last prep but then was gelded and became a real “superpower!!” He was unbeaten over his Sydney Racing Tips Autumn Carnival and Brisbane Winter Carnival runs. Although yet to start at Group 1 level his last win in the Group 2 Guineas showed he has what it takes. There is a caveat here in that 4 of the last 6 Guineas winners have gone on to never win another race. We feel this horse is an exception to that trend and a race like the Golden Eagle should he take another step next prep.
Target Race – Golden Eagle $11
