Brisbane Racing Tips – Doomben racecourse
The Brisbane Racing Tips Winter Carnival heads back to Doomben racecourse this Saturday. Our Expert Racing Tips comes from Blaazing Ben Perkins who has been in sparkling form. Hot on selecting in Brisbane Racing Tips recently Doomben 1000 winner the Bostonian at 50-1, Ben has been at it again.
Last week The Bostonian was Ben’s top rated Brisbane Racing Tips selection in the Group 1 Kingsford Smith last week and duly won at 11-1.
The focus of Blaazing Bens Expert Brisbane Racing Tips tomorrow is the Group 1 Queensland Oaks for the 3 year old fillies. We also have the Group 2 races the PJ O’Shea Stakes and the QTC Moreton Cup as we prepare for Super Saturday and the Strakdbroke Handicap meet next weekend.
GROUP 1 QUEENSLAND OAKS 2200m
The Group 1 Queensland Oaks is a set weights race for 3YO fillies headlining “day 3” of the Doomben sector of the Brisbane Racing Tips Winter Carnival. Formerly contested at Eagle Farm it was moved to Doomben amid track problems at Eagle Farm in 2015 (upgrading). It seems after the subsequent redevelopment of the Eagle Farm track they will stay at Doomben at this point until the new track is established, giving it a week’s respite.
With this being the 3YO last roll of the dice at Group 1 level, quite often it finds the late maturing 3YO’s who may not have quite measured up to the Sydney Racing Tips Autumn Carnival. That is not to say these horses are of “lesser” quality, it is just that their development and strength can be a little behind the others.
The race that got Winx on a 33 win roll
This is the race that Winx famously won before going on her 33 straight winning streak. Also Melbourne and Caulfield Cup winner Ethereal won this race before embarking on a successful Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival success. It can certainly be a race to pay attention to for Spring Racing Carnival success.
The key lead in race tends to be “The Roses” which is run two weeks prior at Doomben. Nine of the last thirteen winners have come through that race although only Scarlett Lady has gone on to do the double.
Despite there being a nice run to the first turn there still statistically at least is a big advantage to drawing a single figure gate. Only three of the last fourteen winners have drawn 10 or worse. There is no doubt it can be a race that pulls a roughie. Five of the last fifteen winners have been 20-1 or better here.
P.J. O’SHEA STAKES
The P.J. OShea Stakes is a Group 2 WFA Race run over 2200m at Doomben racecourse. Without question the Doomben Cup is the best lead in race for the O’Shea and despite it being ten years since a horse has done the double (Scenic Shot) horses that run well leave the writing on the wall to possibly win this race.
It was evidenced again last year with Egg Tart (2nd Doomben Cup) coming out and winning. The next stepping stone for these horses tends to be the Group 2 Brisbane Cup (next week) at 2400m. The other is the Tattersalls on the final day of the Brisbane Racing Tips Winter Carnival (Group 3 2200m). The race was washed out in 2015/16 racing season and actually run at the Sunshine Coast last year so it returns to its original home
Q.T.C CUP (MORETON CUP)
The Q.T.C Moreton Cup is a Group 2 race over 1300m under handicap conditions. Many horses use this race as a final top up on their way to the Stradbroke Handicap. In general it is normally that rung below “star status” for this race with Schillaci really being the only “big name” champion to have won the race.
Horses find their way to this race mainly from the BTC Cup. Last years winner The Monstar bucked the trend by racing in the Luskin Star in Scone prior to winning this race. For those who don’t progress out of this race into the Brisbane Racing Tips Stradbroke Handicap may look elsewhere. This may be the Group 3 Healy Stakes on the final day of the Racing Carnival.
