Brisbane Winter Racing Tips Carnival – Hollindale Stakes
The Hollindale Stakes really signals the start of the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival. The race is a Group 2 event at weight for age level over 1800m and is held at the Gold Coast Turf Club. In recent times the club have been lobbying racing bodies to up the rating to a Group 1. With their nominations in this years event (2019) they may just be about to achieve that status.
Hollindale Stakes – lead up race to Doomben Cup
This is the key lead up race to the Doomben Cup which is run a week later. The Doomben Cup is a Group 1 weight for age race over 2000m at Doomben racecourse.
The Brisbane Racing Tips Hollindale Stakes has been run for 30 years. There has been 30% (10) winners go on out of this race to win the Doomben Cup. So it provides some good information going forward for the Brisbane Racing Tips Carnival.
It is worth noting that only five mares have won the Hollindale and also 3 year olds have struggled (four winners). The remaining 21 running have been won by 4 year old plus males. So it is crucial to work your form around these types of horses as they have a proven historical edge in the market.
The Hollindale Stakes is named after Allan D Holland who was the owner of the Gold Coast Milk Company and former chairman of the Gold Coast Turf Club.
Brisbane Racing Tips – Gold Coast Guineas
The Gold Coast Guineas is a Group 3 race over 1200m run on Hollindale Stakes day. Many trainers use the black type race as a springboard to some juicier fruit over the Brisbane Racing Tips Winter Carnival. The Fred Best Classic over the Doomben racecourse part of the Carnival is also a target. In racing terms the Gold Coast Guineas is in racing terms a very “new event” beginning in 2000. The race is the first time that the Sydney 3 year olds and the “local” Brisbane horses do battle. This will give us some insight into the battles further down the track. The race has been won by some very smart sprinters in Gold Edition, Military Rose, and El Cambio to name a few.
