BRISBANE LIONS IS IT FINALS HEARTBREAK AGAIN IN 2022

Season 2022 prediction
13 wins and sixth place
more AFL finals heartache
2021 FINISHED 4th 15 WINS 7 LOSSES (LOST FINALS STRAIGHT SETS)
We look at the Brisbane Lions Football Club and their prospects in our AFL season preview 2022. 5 losses in 6 finals in the last 2 years tells the tale and it is a big kick up from their for this talented group. We look at the AFL Betting prediction for the Lions in this AFL 2022 season preview of Brisbane.
For the second time in 3 years Brisbane exited the finals race in straight sets. There is no doubt 2021 was a different beast for the Lions. They started terribly losing 3 of their first 4 but then got their act together winning their next 7 in a row. hit with injuries they still managed to climb into a double chance position even if it did take them until the last game of the year.
Finals losses 5 of the last 6 now is the time
There is no doubt there will be some questions from within asking how they can take the next step. Brisbane have lost 5 of their last 6 finals and ALL of these campaigns have seen them finish up in double chance territory. Two of them with home ground advantage so the argument can certainly be made that their ability to bring their home and away form to the big stage is seriously lacking.
Brisbane CLEARLY was the highest scoring team all year (quite often poor accuracy among this as well). So one would suggest it must be defensively (5th in comp) where they must improve. How they do this is a puzzle for Fagan to solve. He will be a little unwilling to put the clamps on his “attacking” defence with Harris Andrews intercept marking and Daniel Rich with some carry and kick length. But to go to the next step perhaps the entire team must slightly adjust their mindset to a more defensive one.
Lachie Neale needs to step up
Lachie Neale looking to move at the end of the year was a big story. It didn’t come off but after a poor year you wonder if there are some deeper issues here. He’s a Brownlow Medallist and Coach Fagan must ensure he is onside.
Perhaps the biggest obstacle for Brisbane to overcome is Fagan himself. Does he truly believe he has the answers to take the next step or is there doubt within him as to whether he is the man for the job. His ability to navigate an up and down year may just arm him with what he needs to tweak the group and get the result.
Jarryd Lyons and Hugh McLuggage were two big midfield stars for Brisbane they need to go again. That will be the BIG question over Brisbane after almost climbing the mountain 3 years in a row. Can they dig in and go again and even improve to get to the AFL Grand Final. We think this could be a “fatigue” year of sorts for the Brisbane Lions so we are tipping a slight dip whilst still being highly competitive.
