Brisbane Racing tips review – Doomben racecourse
The Bostonian salutes at 50-1 in Doomben 10000 boilover
“No 8 The Bostonian 21.00 is a gun first up and loves it here, nice horse”.
This was the comment from our Expert Brisbane Racing Tips analyst Blaazing Ben Perkins on the form sheet to subscribers for the big Doomben 10000. The odds were a juicy 50-1 on the tote and for those that take the overs this was a nice each way investment.
Two favourites flop!
It was billed as the match race between Nature Strip and Osborne Bulls. But within 200m of the gates opening it was easy to see a different story was to unfold. Nature Strip was slower away than normal and ended up racing 3 wide no cover. Osborne Bulls who drew perfectly in four decided he didn’t want to go early and instead of holding a midfield spot he was back last!!
Enter the Kiwi, The Bostonian and he was first up this prep (four from four in the past first up). He was returning to Queensland where he won three form three last winter. The query was the class jump but Cahill rode the horse superbly fifth fence then diving through at the right time to record a narrow victory.
The Stradbroke was the main aim for the Kiwi and he showed he is well on target with a terrific win. He was also the longest price Doomben 10,000 winner in 13 years since Undue won in 2006.
Nature Strip and Osborne Bulls – a day to come
The two favourites although “flopped” in the sense of victory but both of their runs were terrific. Nature Strip showed that perhaps 1200m at this level is not beyond him and with a 3 wide no cover run and fighting on courageously at the end. In truth McEvoy would be ruing not digging up Osborne Bulls earlier as the sectionals he unreeled were sensational. However he was relegated to his fifth Group 1 second placing in a row.
Nothing Dubious about Overdue success
It was a James McDonald special as he piloted Dubious to a much deserved win in the Group 2 Champagne. Dubious hadn’t raced since a wide run in the Golden Slipper and the horse had done zero wrong during the prep. Prior to the Golden Slipper he had been beaten a total of two lengths in three runs. The horse has really been up a long time racing in the Spring/Summer and now the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
McDonald had Dubious positioned beautifully midfield 1 wide but he didn’t get flustered when the pressure came on. He could have taken off early but was patient. He then got the run in the straight and the horse exploded through with a good turn of foot and became a very valuable colt in the process.
Co Trainer Ciaron Maher is ikely to run the colt in a fortnights time as the Brisbane Racing Tips Carnival continues in the BRC Sires Produce. Maher did not close the door on running the colt in the Group 1 Kingsford Smith against the older horses on the same day.

Adelaide Racing Tips review – Morphettville
One filly Qafila beats the boys home in Group 1 S.A. Derby
Luckless in the Adelaide Racing Tips South Australian Oaks only a week ago Quafila backed up in the Group 1 South Australian Derby and showed the boys what it was all about.
The Lindsay Park trained runner was always kept safe in the betting and courtesy of a sensational Cory Parish ride she spanked the boys easily. The speed looked to be on in the Derby with them nearly stretched over 20 lengths midrace. Quafila was always handy to the pace making the win even more creditable. She took the lead early in the straight and you were always waiting for something to swoop given the pace of the race. However she kicked at the 200m and had it in her keeping and she was super strong through the line. The display was dominant and she must now be considered in Caulfield Cup calculations should that be the way the stable head.
Race fav Mr Quickie run of the race
The hot favourite in the race Mr Quickie was back at the rear and never really put into the race until the top of the straight. He charged home unleashing blistering sectionals but was never really given a hope by the jockey. He is certainly a horse to follow going forward and is $41 for the Melbourne Racing Tips Carnival Caulfield Cup.
Savvy Oak who ran second to Quafila had a gun run throughout given every chance by Walker but just failed to see the 2500m out. It was 35 years between drinks for Lindsay Park with Colin Hayes last winning the SA Derby with Mapperley Heights (filly) in 1984.
