Our ninth team we analyse for the AFL tips and betting in the AFL 2019 season is Geelong FC.
Season 2019 looks a carbon copy of 2018 for the Cats they in that they will be thereabouts to give their fans some thrills along the way but will be borderline to make the AFL finals.
List is also Same Same with minor Change
The Cats list hasn’t undergone any crazy sort of change and at the same time when you look for where the improvement may come from its not immediately evident as the Cats do have an ageing list particularly at the top end talent level and although they will attempt the youth/experience blend a few of their journeymen have departed in the off season and this may become telling.
Geelong recruited the pacy Luke Daulhaus (Bulldogs) and Gary Rohan (Sydney) both are sharp moving forwards and players they may be looking to replace the 30 odd goals delivered by the now departed Daniel Menzel and they also lost journeyman George Horlin-Smith. Jordan Murdoch and Jackson Thurlow neither ever cemented their spot but boy they more than pulled their weight at this level when called upon and at the stage of this list they are important departures.
Midfield Dominance under Question
The Cats have the number 2 ranked midfield in the AFL as ranked by Champion Data including Gary Ablett Joel Selwood and Paddy Dangerfield, it is absolute silk and when you throw in the emergence of Tim Kelly last year they are a powerhouse through the middle of the ground. There is no improvement here in 2019 and quite possibly Gazza’s days in the midfield are done.
Tom Hawkins was awesome up forward last year finishing 3rd in the Coleman and bagging 60 Goals but you wouldn’t think there is improvement coming here and with the loss of sharpshooter Dan Menzel they need to rely on the new recruits to deliver.
Defensively under the guidance of Matthew Scarlett the Cats were solid again and the youngsters Tom Stuart (best young player of year) and Jack Henry working well with the newly cast Mark Blicavs in defence and the switcher Harry Taylor however once again no real improvement here.
Geelong won and lost 2 games by less then a kick if they both went the other way they could’ve finished 4th or 13th so tight was the competition so no real advantage for improvement here either. If Geelong are to march higher it will be the youngsters Brendan Parfitt, Nakia Cockatoo and James Parsons who need to step up.
We see same same for the Cats in 2019.
