Cascadian a brilliant winner of the Doncaster

Saturday Racing Tips – review last week

Last Saturday Racing Tips was the first day of the Sydney Racing Tips The Championships at Randwick. It was a quality day of Racing in the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival as we saw Nature Strip return as the countries no 1 sprinter. Cascadian was a big plunge as the winner of the Doncaster and Anamoe won the 2 year old Sires and has set himself up as a star for the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.

Sydney Saturday Racing Tips – review last week

Doncaster Handicap – perfect ride by Jamie Kah

It was a good old fashioned plunge that saluted when Cascadian was backed as if unbeatable in the Group 1 Doncaster backed on race day from $18 into $8. This doesn’t often happen in a Group 1. It went exactly to plan for the brilliant Jamie Kah who had hardly ever ridden in Sydney and riding in her first Doncaster. She did the smart thing and followed someone who knew how to get around the track. She tracked the fav Mugatoo with Hugh Bowman aboard and got a lovely cart onto the race. The seas parted at the right time and Kah timed it to perfection getting up on the post.

Kah seems to have a “sixth sense” she communicates in a way with a horse that I don’t think we have really seen many in history do. She rides the horse and lets the horse tell her things. Not often does she try and get the horse to do something it doesn’t want to do. Her timing and patience are first class and her calm temperament sees her able to handle such a rapid rise with great ease. It was a Group 1 double for Cummings who won the Sires with Anomae earlier in the day, the run of the race was Zaaki the newcomer from Europe looks a coming winner really finding the line hard

TJ Smith – Nature Strip on to again

Nature Strip absolutely cemented himself as the best sprinter in Australia and put his hand up as the best in the world by destroying his opposition making it back to back TJ Smith Stakes wins. He absolutely dominated them, Macdonald didn’t get flustered early and he let Eduardo run then allowed Nature Strip to simply go through its gears and charge away for a dominant win. No doubt the run of the race outside of the winner was Masked Crusader reeling off huge late sections, surely must be considered for the Everest on the back of that.

ATC Derby

What a training effort it was by Maher and Co to get Explosive Jack to take out the ATC Derby. He became the first horse to win the Tasmanian Derby/ ATC Derby double and it was a great advertisement for a “tough” horse to get ascendancy over a “class” horse in these tough 3yo staying tests. It was one of the great battles with three horses Lions Roar, Young Werther and Explosive Jack all going to the line together.

Sires Produce – a Spring star is born

We saw a very smart win by Anamoe in the 2 year old Sires who sat back and just destroyed them like a good horse, if they want to press ahead it hard to see how it doesn’t go on and win the Champagne. He looks like an ideal Caulfield Guineas Horse and he would be fav if there were early markets. However he has firmed from $81 into $15 for the Cox Plate in the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival signalling he may be headed the way of many other successful 3YO if he can win. He really hasn’t put a foot wrong placed in both the Blue Diamond and the Golden Slipper he finally got his much deserved Group 1.
