SYDNEY RACING TIPS SPRING CHAMPION STAKES DAY

The Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes is a $1 million race (up from $500k last year) during the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. It is regarded as Sydney’s premier distance race for 3 year olds and will be the focus of our Sydney Racing Tips form sheet with Expert Sydney Racing Tips analyst Blaazing Ben Perkins.

The Sydney Racing Tips Spring Champion Stakes in fact is the only Group 1 journey for the juveniles run over more than 1600m during the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. It is held on the same day as Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m), the Group 2 Stan Fox stakes (1500m) and the Group 3 Angst Stakes. This year will see the inaugural running of the Silver Eagle (1300m) which is the pre cursor to the new 7.5 million Golden Eagle.

SYDNEY RACING TIPS – GROUP 1 SPRING CHAMPION STAKES

The Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes is a set weights race for 3YO’s run over the 2000m at Royal Randwick racecourse. It is Sydney’s premier distance race for 3YO and can give connections an indication of the staying ability of their horses to see whether a trip to Melbourne is warranted for a crack at the Group 1 VRC Derby or the Group 1 VRC Oaks.

The lead in to this race is generally through a race like the Gloaming Stakes (1800m)  held earlier over the Sydney Racing Tips Spring Carnival. Generally the more brilliant 3yos have topped out their ability at the 1600m and don’t stretch the extra ¼ mile. This race is really targeted by trainers who have horses with genuine staying bloodlines who have shown staying potential at previous runs

SYDNEY RACING TIPS – GROUP 2 ROMAN CONSUL STAKES

The Group 2 Roman Consul is a set weights race for the 3 YO sprinters over 1200m at Randwick Racecourse. It attracts the top line 3 YO sprinters who may be looking to head toward the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington during the Melbourne Racing Tips spring Carnival. Quite often you will see horses dropping back from a 1400m realising they are not able to get a mile. They will freshen up back to the sprint trip races like the San Domenico Stakes can be lead ins for this Group 2 sprint event.

SYDNEY RACING TIPS – GROUP 2 STAN FOX STAKES

Another race for the 3YO on the big day for 3 year olds and the Stan Fox Stakes is a Group 2 race for 3YO’s run over 1500m at set weights. The rescheduling of this race to be run on this day means that there may be some flow through from a race like the Group 1 Golden Rose run a couple of weeks earlier in the Sydney Racing Tips Spring Carnival. It is possible to have some of the provincial runners to contest this race as well perhaps is through a race like the Group 3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle. This race was won last year by the roughie Tarka ($19) who upset the hot pot The Autumn Sun!!

SYDNEY RACING TIPS SILVER EAGLE – NEW RACE

This is a newly constructed race by the Sydneysiders serving as a lead in to Australias now 3rd richest race the $7.5 Million The Golden Eagle (behind “The Everest” and The Melbourne Cup) This race is a set weight conditions for 4YO’s run over 1300m being the perfect lead in to the $7.5 million Golden Eagle over the 1500m on November 2nd clashing with the Melbourne Racing Tips Victoria Derby Day.
