Spring Carnival racing review

Let’s have a look at our Spring Carnival racing review from iTipsports.com.au racing tips October 5. Expert Racing Tips analysts are Blaazing Ben Perkins and Value Victor. We enter the month of October and that means the main Group 1 races of the Spring Racing Carnival approach us. The Caulfield Cup, The Everest, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup week all beckon. Last Saturday was terrific racing and some key Carnival markets were thrown on their head.

Flemington Race 7 The Bart Cummings

One of the highlights from our Spring Carnival racing review is the automatic entry to Melbourne Cup for winner Just Fine at 20-1. It was a bold front running ride here and some jockeys need to take note of Jordan Childs positive ride. This horse had lost form but bounced at good odds to find its way into the Melbourne Cup. We are doubtful on it running that trip but the big syndicate of owners who have bought in for not much money each will have a huge Melbourne Cup day. As they say you pay 1% of the bill but get 100% of the thrill.
Just Fine is $101 into $34 for the Melbourne Cup

Flemington Underwood Stakes winner Via Sistina

Via bounced back with gutsy win and she really dug in and fought hard when Buckaroo swept up to win. That run has her back on track for a Cox Plate tilt and trimmed back in price strongly.
Via Sistina $10 into $5 for the Cox Plate

Flemington Race 4 Edward Manifold winner Too Darn Discreet

This one was a saver Roughie Bet for us and was 15-1 into 10-1 and supported. This race was run in SHOCKING conditions and the rain as heavy as you will see. These races can be forgive races for many and need to be put in their own “form” basket. That said this was a NICE win and had the market support to suggest it could get it done. The horse essentially gave them a start settling back then peeled towards the middle and let down with lovely finish.
Too Darn Discreet shorten Thousand Guineas $26 into $8

Flemington Race 2 Super Impose winner Keeneland, third Scary

The winner was ridden well, sat just off the tempo early, moved up to challenge and was nice and strong when challenged. This horse is on track for the Victorian Derby and was $26 into $9. The third horse Scary looked as though it didn’t run the trip but the market seemed to have liked its effort was $17 into $13 for Derby. We thought the run of the race and worth a Derby ticket was LAVALIER settled back and strong late.
Lavalier $34 into $15 for Derby
Keeneland $26 into $9 for Derby
Scary $17 into $13 for Derby

Randwick Dulcify Stakes winner Swift Falcon

From the Hawkes stable, VERY strong win, settled back peeled to middle and put them away in style. As a result firmed up strongly for the Spring Champion
Swift Falcon $11 into $4.50 for Spring Champion Stakes

Randwick Flight Stakes winner Lady Shenandoah

Blew them away in the small field, had gun run 1×1 and SUPER turn of foot really put them away
Lady Shenandoah $11 into $2.50 fav for the Thousand Guineas

Randwick Premiere Airman winner

Hawkes AGAIN and this time at 40-1. MANY flops in this from The Everest perspective and this horse caused the BIG upset. Had nice run in behind, zipped up on the fence and was too good! Giga Kick terrible, Think About It god knows what the jockey was thinking reefing it right back to last. Bella Nipotina ok but strung up when needed room.
The Everest market 6 horses ALL under $9

Randwick Metropolitan Land Legend

One of the GREAT races of the day that saw Zardozi battle it out right to the line with Land Legend. Land Legend sustained a long run around them and Zardozi was wide no cover whole way both terrific runs.
Land Legend Caulfield Cup $41 into $11 and Melbourne Cup $51 into $26

Epsom Handicap winner Ceowulf

Trainer Joe Pride was vindicated by keeping Ceowulf to the mile where just settled back and motored home. Kovalica was VERY unlucky would not have beaten the winner but got stood on its head at the 200 after being held up AND should have run second
Ceowulf King Charles Stakes is $21 to $8
Kovalika King Charles Stakes $30 to $18
