RICHMOND…IS THE DYNASTY OVER

2021 FINISHED 12th 9 WINS 12 LOSSES
It has been quite the run for Richmond in compiling AFL premierships in recent times. When the Tigers went public 5 or so years ago with some ambitious goals, everyone thought they were mad. Well here we are…most recent premierships, most supporters and a host of other on and off field achievements. The AFL Betting market is uncertain about the Tigers in 2022 so lets have a look.
After an extraordinary 3 flags in 4 years the wheels fell off a bit for the Tigers in 2021. It was a tough back end of the year for Richmond with just 2 wins 7 losses and a draw from their last 10 games. This bad run coincided with key injuries and Dustin Martin the biggest bame amongst them.
Dusty Martin the man
Dusty is such a crucial part of this side and the 3 time Norm Smith Medallists form has a direct correlation with Richmond winning or losing. He has suffered a terrible off season tragedy with the passing of his father in New Zealand and whilst footy can act as an escape form it can also magnify if a player isn’t coping in some way. Richmond will have all the right people around Dusty but how well Martin can cope with his fathers passing and perform will have a big say on Richmond’s ability to climb back into the finals.
One more tilt at the AFL flag
There is no doubt at least on last tilt for a flag left in this team. They have terrific key position players who are closer to the end than the start but the likes of Cotchin, Riewoldt and Grimes still have some good footy left. The fact they recruited 32 year old Robbie Tarrant from the Roos shows they well and truly believe they are in the window.
Hardwick the story teller
Coach Damian Hardwick has built his success around story telling. He has an uncanny knack of creating stories that his team can believe in and buy into. The idea of a resurrection of sorts will be a compelling vision and with Hardwicks skillset something the playing group may well and truly get excited about.
Game style must be under question
There is a question about what game style the Tigers will need to adopt. It’s hard to know whether the competition has caught up with their “chaos” style game or whether it was a lack of motivation, desire and injuries that conspired against them in 2021. They play a high energy game that is not sustainable when things are going poorly because it really needs an optimum team energy, not always something present when there are bumps in the road.
The Tigers lost most of their sides against the Top 8 sides a big area to turn around if success is something they are after in 2022
