Most were expecting Melbourne to play off in the 2022 Grand Final after a stunning 2021 premiership. It was to be the commencement of a Demons dynasty that never arrived. Alas it was not to be and the results in the second half of 2022, after a superb front half, was quite the shock. Simply they appeared to be playing within themselves and did not have the same hunger and hard edge of 2021. A “premiership hangover” we call it in simple terms. They have super talent in their group and can coach Goodwin harness this talent in the right way is the super question. A 2018 smashing in the Prelim Final then resulted in a near bottom placing the year after. They then just missed the 8 in 2020 followed by the BIG 2021 spike to win the premiership in convincing style. HOWEVER its hardly the dynasty ALL thought was coming with Oliver, Petracca and co BUT we can expect a strong top 4 push in 2023 under Max Gawn. They are $6.50 second flag fav, $3.60 to make the Grand Final, $2.10 to make the top 4 and $1.17 to make the AFL finals.
