new Melbourne Cup fav Russian Camelot

Melbourne Cup 2020 – a new favourite

As the Adelaide Racing Tips Carnival continued, the Group 1 SA Derby was the feature on the program. And who would have thought out of this race a new Melbourne Cup 2020 favourite would emerge. However that is exactly what occurred with winner of the Derby Russian Camelot emerging as the new $ 11Melbourne Cup fav. And the second fav for the Melbourne Cup 2020 also comes out of the Adelaide Racing Tips Winter Racing Carnival from 2019 in the Adelaide Cup winner Surprise Baby at $12.

SA Derby betting plunge

The Danny O’Brien trained runner was the medium of a heavy betting plunge tumbling into favourite for the race. This in itself was huge as the horse hadn’t had a race since a 1600m run at Pakenham a month earlier. It had been scratched at previous runs due to a throat complaint and looked a genuine fitness query. However trainer Danny O’Brien has very quickly stamped himself as a master trainer of stayers and doing so very much in line with the “European way” than the Australian way. This is evidenced by Vow and Declare winning a Melbourne Cup at just its third run in.

SA Derby first winner from the far North

It was truly history in the making as Russian Camelot broke new ground for South Australian racing. e was foaled in Europe so essentially he is 6 months younger than the Australian 3YO’s and no Northern Hemisphere Horse has had ever won a Derby.

It was a dominant display and connections will be salivating at what the Melbourne Racing Tips Spring Carnival may hold. He just sat back near last and John Allen just rode him “like he was the best horse in the race”. He had a lapful of horse on the turn and accelerated quickly picking up a once Guineas fav (Dalasan) and a Victoria Derby winner (Warning) like they were nailed to the rail. He went to the line with plenty left in the tank and he is going to be a superior stayer of the future. It was worth noting post race that Danny O’Brien was not getting too carried away with Melbourne Cup talk understanding the horse still has some growing and furnishing to do.

Derby Day – roughies galore

Of course it was only a week ago that subscribers were on the back of our tips Bella Vella winning at 41-1 in the Sangster Stakes. And the roughies rolled on at SA Derby day. Over most Racing Carnivals there tends to be a day of big upsets and that was Derby Day from Adelaide this year. It started in the Group 3 Sires Produce with a $26 shot Ringbolt. The horse had had only 1 career run (ran 4th over 1050m at Balaklava ) and then only 1.5 weeks later it steps up to 1400m the Blinkers are applied and bang!

It was only 2 races later that $61 pop Rushwa got the cash. The horse had only won 2 of its previous 43 races and after being beaten out of sight last run got a beautiful run through and was too good. $13 pop Bajan seemed to relish the rise in trip for it’s win, stepping up to the 1800m from 1400m last start the horse basically circled the field and finished powerfully to win. Miss Mandito was the $26 blowout in race 7 and she obviously appreciated the drop back in grade and back to the 1200m, was supremely fit and recorded a good win.

To wind out the day $15 pop Be My Star who was off a hindered run the start before and really lapped up the extra 100m with the speed on. No Doubt the track bias favoured horses off the speed on Derby Day which was a little unusual given the rail position was out 3m from 1800m to the winning post.

Adelaide Racing Goodwood Sprint this week

This week is the Adelaide Racing Tips Goodwood Handicap and a cracking field assembled for the Morphettville Sprint classic over 1200m. Five horses under 5-1 and nine in total under 15-1 makes this race highly competitive and loads of value. It is a big 9 race card for Morphettville this Saturday Adelaide Racing Tips.

Another big race this Saturday is the Melbourne Racing Tips Andrew Marsden Stakes over 2800m. This race is crucial as the winner becomes exempt from the Melbourne Cup 2020. King of Leogrance is a $2.20 fav as our Expert Melbourne Racing Tips analyst Pete Brinky finds betting value in the race.

Brisbane Racing – BTC SPRINT

The Group 3 BTC SPRINT was anything but!!! They absolutely walked and it was a picnic for those up on pace, the 1st 2nd and 3rd placing’s settled 2nd 3rd and 4th in the run and it was a real sprint home,

Vega One was clearly the run of the race a real eye catcher from the perspective of the Brisbane Racing Tips Stradbroke Handicap. This horse has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons with the apprentice Baylee Northdurft outed for 3 months due to his handling of the horse.

But the way Vega One worked home he is well on target for the Stradbroke Handicap on the 6th June.the big one. Outback Barbie had its chance as did Deep Image and Kementari made nice ground but wasn’t as impressive as Vega One.

The Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap Betting Odds market has Vega One an $8 favourite in a wide open betting market. The feature race for the Brisbane Racing Tips Winter Carnival will take place on Saturday June 6.

Sydney Racing Tips a Masked Crusader

Our man in Sydney Expert Saturday Racing Tips Blaazxing Ben Perkins had this horse as a short priced best bet last Saturday at Randwick. The Team Hawkes star duly went on to win like a good thing and we believe, like Russian Camelot a star has been found.

It is hard to believe this horse was beaten at its debut run in a maiden at Wyong!! Masked Crusader has gone from strength to strength since that effort winning two in Victoria and then saving its best for its win on Saturday. Tommy Berry took it straight to the lead admittedly it had an unpressured run but put 5 lengths on them as it liked and then throttled down at the 100m still winning by 3 lengths.

Its hard to know how good this horse can be, but he is in the right hands with the Hawkes Team they will choose the correct path. There is some talk he will go to the Scone Guineas next week then be saved for a shot possibly at the Everest or even the Golden Eagle if it could get the 1500m. It will be a very exciting ride over the next 6 months with this horse as we really start to unravel how good he is, at the moment he is untapped.

Masked Crusader is currently on the fourth line of betting for the Sydney Racing Tips Golden Eagle at 11-1 behind fav Alligator Blood.

Looking forward to this Saturday Racing Tips from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane. Until then stay safe and well.
