AFL SEASON PREVIEW GWS GIANTS

Years in Finals – 3
Top 4 appearances – 1
Grand Finals – 1
Premierships – 0
As opposed to the other newly introduced club into the AFL the Suns, the Giants have done a very good job at nurturing talent and performing. A Grand Final appearance in 2019 is testimony to that. However this young club has now hit a hurdle point and that is experienced talent wants out and they struggle to bring experience players in to replace them. Whilst draft picks are important we feel GWS needs experience coming into this group to compete in finals year in year out. If they don’t it may be a slide down the table to join the other expansion club the Suns. If this happens the AFL expansion experiment looks in trouble. Their new coach Adam Kingsley is footy smart, as is Stuart Dew at the Suns, but Kingsley may need time and patience in rebuilding. A big name or two from other clubs would go a long way. GWS was smashed by Richmond in the 2019 Grand Final BUT has been in the finals 3 of the last 5 years which is a credit to the club. This trend looks to be on hold for the next period as Kingsley rebuilds for the next leg up. They are 80-1 to win the flag, 40-1 to make the AFL Grand Final, 18-1 the top 4 and $5.50 to make the 8.
