This club is the enigma of the AFL and the self proclaimed “power” club of the AFL can only be titled that now by their bank balance, not on field performance. They have not won a final for over 20 years, have a host of ex players with too much to say and the drug saga of recent years just does not go away. A host of poor coaching appointments and poor drafting and recruiting has not helped. Management and leadership in broad terms has been poor. They have looked like a ship without a rudder and now look to the steady hands of Brad Scott out of AFL House to fix the mess. They also have a change of captains to Zach Merrett. They need to stabilise the club AND importantly build a game style with even balance of offense and defense.
WE have self titled Essendon’s game style as “rip-shit-bust” such has been their offense focus. They can score and when it works it looks great BUT when it does not it is woeful. Hardly a recipe for success! This will need to change for Essendon to have any success. Essendon to their credit has made the finals twice in the last 5 years BUT have lost both games and been bundled out. You might argue what’s the point and its hardly a steady climb up the table. More like a company who makes a modest profit one year then a loss the next. The Bombers are 50-1 to win the flag, 26-1 to make the Grand Final, 13-1 to make the top 4 and $4.50 to make the AFL top 8.
