Cox Plate favourite out of Racing this Saturday
When we put together our Melbourne Racing Tips Autumn Stable Stars, one horse sat at the top of the list. She also is our chosen one to headline the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival to take the place of the legendary Winx.
Star filly Mystic Journey was set to race one last time as a 3 year old nominated for Saturdays Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield in the final Metropolitan racing season before her 4 year old season. The $4.40 favourite for the Melbourne Racing Tips Spring Carnival Cox Plate was the star of the Autumn Racing Carnival 2019.
However, on the back if 12 mls of rain overnight at Caulfield connections will NOT run Mystic Journey in the Group 3 Bletchingly on Saturday. With more rain predicted later in the week Trainer Adam Trinder is electing to hold off until most likely the PJ Lawrence Stakes (Formerly the JJ Liston) held on 17th August giving her a nice lead in to the Memsie Stakes a fortnight later. Our Expert Melbourne Racing Tips analyst Pete Brinky says “what a shame this super filly, soon to be mare is not in this Saturday. I am eagerly awaiting her return as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival”.
Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival – Superstar Status
She beat the boys to take the Group 1 Australian Guineas and then buttering up with an even better run (3 wide no cover) to take the inaugural $5 million All Star Mile. We are sure trainer Adam Trinder will not want to flatten Mystic Journey so early in such an important preparation and as such the ground is simply not suitable for her on Saturday. He will look to space her runs out over the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival in her best interests.
Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival – likely schedule
Trainer Adam Trinder has now changed his intended direction with the filly/mare for the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival to be the following
17th August – PJ Lawrence Stakes
31st August – Group 1 Memsie Stakes (WFA 1400M)
14th September – Group 1 Makybe Diva (WFA 1600M)
Then it would be on to either the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (WFA 1800m) on Sunday 29th September or the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m set weights and penalties) on the 5th October. Then onto the big one the Group 1 $5 million Cox plate 26th October as the mare to replace the super WInx as the chosen one to hold the boys at bay!
