Along with Richmond, Geelong has been the most consistent team of the last 5 years and is the envy of ALL AFL clubs. Their ability to retain players, use free agency to their advantage, bring in players from other clubs to perform at elevated levels AND have its players continue to have break out years is unprecedented in the AFL. Put this with smart drafting AND a significant home ground advantage and it’s hard to see Geelong NOT once again being a force to reckon with. The risk would be the premiership hangover…lets face it, it was a long time between drinks since the last one. The retirement of Captain Joel Selwood leaves a big leadership hole BUT opens up opportunity in its midfield as Joel was most likely nearly cooked. This is what is no doubt the strongest club in the AFL, quite brilliant their consistency and another push is likely. Back to back is one of the most difficult tasks in the AFL and we are about to see how hard it is for Geelong. The Cats are premiership fav at $5.50, $2.50 to make the GF, $1.50 to make the top 4 and a prohibitive $1.05 to make the top 8.
