AFL tips and betting 2018 – Round 4
GWS were two points off covering a -32.5 line in AFL tips Round 4 to miss a perfect 3-0 start in AFL tips and betting 2018. As it was, it was a comfortable GWS win over Freo. We had a win in the Hawthorn round 4 tips game on a +6.5 and $2.20 win defeating Melbourne comfortably 115-42 but we missed the Gold Coast line of +32.5 in a 70 point loss to West Coast.
Carlton…officially the worst team in the AFL
You know things just are not going to go right when you lose your Captain 10 minutes before the AFL game starts in the warm up as Carlton did with Mark Murphy. In AFL round 4 tips, Carlton confirmed they are the worst team in the AFL with a horrible 86 point loss to North in Tassie. The Blues kicked 30 points for the game to North 116 and Carlton just has no forwards and struggles to defend. Coach Brendan Bolton has turned from teacher to preacher with his continued rhetoric about Carlton being on the right track. We just cannot see where this comes from. We do expect a performance bounce soon from the Blues such is their woeful performances. This is human nature and fits into our Human Behaviour Model. In the meantime North are 2-2 and can look positively to AFL Round 5 tips and betting.
Adelaide Crows…problems looming!!!
The rumour mill has been strong and loud about the Crows camp for sometime now about player unrest and so it looked in AFL Round 4 tips as they copped a belting at home by Collingwood. In the wet, wintry conditions their appeared to be a lack of effort by the Crows as they were beaten in contested ball in an excellent effort by Collingwood. As if the lost in last years AFL Grand Final was not enough for them, the pre season camp seems to have created some player unrest, the Crouch brothers are out injured and Sloane, Walker and Betts all have injuries. We cannot remember the last time Adelaide kicked 58 points at home, as 100 points is usually a walk in the park.
The Crows now look to an AFL Round 5 tips Friday night game at the SCG v Swans and staring at a 2-3 start to the AFL season whilst Collingwood now get the extended break in preparation for the blockbuster Anzac Day clash v Essendon.
Port and Essendon revert to the norm.
These two are bordering on the biggest teaser’s in the AFL and so it was again in their AFL Round 4 tips clash. This was meant to be redemption for the Power after being smashed in the same clash last year. For Essendon after two straight losses the comfort of Etihad got their downhill free-wheeling game going in kicking 106 points in a nice bounce. Not unexpected here from both sides. Any talk of Port being a top four side comes crashing down in losses like this and whilst at it any talk of being able to cover ruckman Ryder is just a joke. Ryder is their most important player without question and without him stoppage clearances become tough work. For us, Ports midfielders play too outside as it is so without Ryder this become even more problematic.
Port heads for a tough home game v Geelong in AFL Round 5 tips whilst Essendon now head to the AFL Round 5 tips Anzac Day clash.
West Coast looking good
West Coast now sit 3-1 equal top of the AFL table and could easily be outright top at 4-0. They are well coached, have a formidable forward line and its midfield is strong enough to compete. It was a soft win all the same at home to a disappointing Gold Coast who must be hating being away from home because of the Comm Games. They don’t play at home until mid season…good luck with that! At least frequent flyer points balance goes up although they at least stay in Queensland this week in the Q-clash Derby v Brisbane in AFL Round 5 tips.
Bulldogs and Sydney in a tight one
Sydney and Western Bulldogs played a tight AFL Round 4 tips game at the SCG in a 7 point Sydney win. Sydney now sit equal top of the AFL table and with Buddy in career best form at top 4 spot does look likely at this early stage. The Dogs will be feeling slightly more comfortable given they have now had a win and close loss after a poor start but the proof of confirmed improvement is still to come. Sydney come up against Adelaide in AFL Round 5 tips game whilst the Dogs travel to Perth v Freo.
Melbourne woeful and Hawthorn on the up
Hawthorn has surprised us with a 3-1 start to the AFL 2018 season and had a very strong win on a +6.5 line and $2.20 win for us against a very ordinary Melbourne. The Hawks have multiple goal kickers and in O’Meara and Mitchell a regenerated midfield that is doing great things for them. We will see if it lasts, history says yes. Melbourne were very disappointing in kicking only 48 points for the game. Whilst it is too early to tell they are developing a “big game, go missing” approach and certainly this is a game they should have won. Perhaps it is too early to judge but the clock is ticking. Melbourne play Richmond in AFL Round 5 tips game and would be looking for an immediate bounce whilst the Hawks come up against North.
Richmond play in a training run
It was a training run for the Tigers in AFL Round 4 tips with a 110-17 demolition of the Brisbane Lions. Dusty Martin 6 kicked 6 goals as the Tigers continued their impressive start to AFL 2018. The Lions looked like boys playing men and Coach Chris Fagan declared it takes time to rebuild. The Lions would be hoping like hell the rebuild is working and not a “Carlton” rebuild and too many performances like this will raise questions. The Lions get a chance of victory this week v Gold Coast in the Q-clash whilst Richmond play Melbourne in AFL Round 5 tips.
Giants go to 3-1 in impressive AFL 2018 start
The GWS Giants had a comfortable win in AFL Round 4 tips to go to 3-1 on the table as they start an impressive 2018 AFL season and get a chance to go 4-1 in playing the hapless Saints in AFL Round 5 tips. Fremantle reverted to the norm after two strong home wins and failed to kick a decent score kicking 51 points for the game. This will continue to be their achilles heel until and must score on the road to show continued improvement.
Cats win at home but injury list tests depth
Daniel Menzel saved the day for Geelong kicking 5.3 in the Cats 47 point win at home v St Kilda. Geelongs injury list is like a who’s who with amongst them Ablett, Guthrie, Duncan, Taylor, Cockatoo and Henderson all to come back. St Kilda really are struggling best reflected by their average score of 48 points per game the last three weeks. On that score it is hard to see the Saints beating GWS in this weeks AFL Round 5 tips game and Geelong travel to Adelaide v Port Adelaide in what looks to be the game of the round.
