Memsie Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse

This Saturday features the Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse in Melbourne. This is the commencement of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. It is a weight-for-age race held over 1400 metres prize money of $1,000,000.

The Memsie Stakes is the first Group I race of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival and the first of the Spring season.

In 2016, the Memsie Stakes was won by the talented Black Heart Bart and has a host of other famous names who have won including So You Think (2010) and the champion mares Makybe Diva (2005) and Sunline (2000 and 2001).

The Memsie Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse has long held the title of a race that provides a leading guide to the Melbourne and Sydney Spring Racing Carnival and it is likely that this year will be no different with a host of talented horses participating.

A couple of interesting stats for the race are that winners routinely are first up from a spell and stayers looking to compete in the Melbourne Cup and Caulfield Cup
