FEEHAN STAKES DAY SATURDAY 4th SEPTEMBER – MOONEE VALLEY
For the last 13 years the Feehan Stakes run at Moonee Valley racecourse has been run under the name “The Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes” as of 2019 the race will revert to its registered name the Feehan Stakes. It is the major feature race of Saturday Racing Tips with Top Melbourne Racing Tips analyst Pete Brinky.
The Feehan is a Group 2 weight for age race run over 1600m at Moonee Valley Racecourse. It’s become a real watch and assess race from a Melbourne Spring Racing Tips Carnival perspective. Many horses out of this race go on to run well or win some of the big features over the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival in races like the Cox Plate, Caulfield Cup and The Melbourne Cup.
Makybe Diva and Green Moon are a couple of horses to place in this race and win the Melbourne Cup. Fields Of Omagh, Northerly and Sunline all won this race on the way to taking out the Melbourne Racing Tips Cox Plate.
Cox Plate – automatic entry for the winner of Race 8 Feehan
The winner of the Feehan Stakes will gain automatic entry into the Cox Plate this year. As a result there is a maximum field of 14 runners pursuing this dream goal. The impressive Elephant is the $5.50 fav in a wide open field along with Superstorm $5.50 and Sierra Sue at $6.
McEwen Stakes – Race 5 at The Valley
Another Group 2 run on Feehan Stakes Day is the Mittys McEwen Stakes. The McEwen is a weight for age race run over 1000m around the tight Moonee Valley circuit. It can play in to suit those track and trip specialists, so finding those horses who have won over the 1000m at the Valley can give a good guide to their chances.
Some of the horses can use this race as a stepping stone to the Group 1 Melbourne Racing Tips Manikato Stakes over 1200m at the Valley later in the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival.
Chautauqua Stakes – Race 7
The Chautauqua Stakes is named after the speed machine that was Chautauqua. It is a listed race over 1200 metres at Moonee Valley with prize money of $160,000. Maximum field with plenty of emergencies will ensure a great race. It is race 7 on the big Moonee Valley card and 45.50 the field will ensure plenty of value on the Pete Brinky Melbourne Racing Tips form sheet.
