Melbourne Cup the RACE that stops a NATION

As always so many different stories feed into this race and many analysts making reasons as to why horses can or can’t win. And often at times in conflict of each other but that’s the GREAT part to this race it’s the unpredictability of 24 horses over 3200m under handicap conditions. With Internationals we haven’t even seen that adds to the mystery of the great race.
This year’s edition is no exception, already the new vet guidelines have seen 3 chances scratched for not passing the new scanning requirements. But we are still left with a relatively short fav. In fact the overseas visitor Deauville Legend is the ONLY horse under double figures at $3.40 and the northern hemisphere 3YO appears to be a class act. The big question on this horse is the 3200m and is it hard and seasoned enough for what looks like it could be one of the quicker Melbourne Cups in some time.
Gold Trip the Caulfield Cup runner up must be considered on the rain affected surface. Certainly has its fair share of weight for a horse that has won just one race but was a solid effort at WFA in the Cox Plate so Looks on track
Montefilia is coming through the Caulfield Cup and has been timed to the minute for this race. It was the run of the race in the Caulfield Cup and after running 4th in last year’s Caulfield Cup they elected to spell and aim at this years cup. It looks to be right on track.
Lunar Flame qualified for this race by winning the Bart Cummings and went on to chase home Francesco Gaurdi. It made a sustained long run is a horse that gives EVERY indication it will run the 3200m but the question will be can it be quick enough.
A real MAD roughie could be Interpretation and it would take a brave person to leave out a Maher/Eustace trained runner in a staying event. On face value was disappointing in the Geelong Cup when loomed to be a chance was found to be lame post race. That offers an excuse, but at the same time there must be a question mark if 100% right for the big one.
Other hopes include Realm of Flowers who was HUGE in the Metropolitan racing wide the whole way and just missing. Also previous Cup winner Vow And Declare has done NOTHING wrong. Good when wide all the way in the Caulfield Cup and is right on track.
There are certain to be other hopes that we haven’t mentioned here but you cant tip them all!! Shapes to be another ripping race enjoy the day and best of luck on Melbourne Cup Day 2022!!
