AFL GRAND FINAL 2022 – GEELONG

Geelong made it 16 wins in a row in a remarkable back half of the AFL 2022 season. Plus a clean sweep of its 3 finals including the Grand Final on Saturday. Simply the heartache of recent finals losses AND playing a young relative inexperienced opponent off the emotional Prelim final win placed Geelong in a sweet spot. They won the AFL Grand Final comfortably 133-52 by 81 points.

1ST AND 3RD QUARTERS WERE THE GAME

The first and third quarters were the game. Geelong kicked 6.5 and 6.3 in these two quarters to Sydney’s 1.0 and 0.1. So you had a total of 12.8 to 1.1 or 80 points to 7 in the opening and “premiership” quarters of the game. Simply the game was pretty well over at quarter time and absolutely over by half way through the third quarter. 

Issac Smith and Norm Smith

Issac Smith the Geelong winner with 32 possessions and 3 goals was the Norm Smith Medallist, quite a remarkable effort at this age. Patrick Dangerfield gets his well deserved premiership and Joel Selwood plays in his fourth and first as captain. Tsyon Stengle gets turfed from the Adelaide Crows and lands at another club and becomes All Australian and a premiership player. How damning must that be on the Crows and its culture. Two Geelong players are from Ireland and lob at Geelong and play in premierships, just brilliant. To Coach Chris Scott who has weathered the critics just his game plan and comes up all aces, great job!

To Sydney they now must bounce and bounce quickly or run the risk of being another club smashed in a Grand Final and immediately going down the table. They have plenty of talent and grit so they are capable of bouncing quick.
