Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival September – November 2018
The Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival 2018 is a plethora of racing over three months and unrivalled and without peer around the world. The action starts on the first weekend of September, flows into early and first half of October at Caulfield for the Caulfield Spring Racing Carnival including the Caulfield Cup, then heads to Moonee Valley for the October Moonee Valley Racing Carnival featuring the WS Cox Plate Friday at just after the AFL Grand Final and officially ends at Sandown in the middle of November. In between this there are meetings at Caulfield including the Group 1 Caulfield Cup and Moonee Valley with the richest WFA weight for age race in the world the Group 1 WS Cox Plate. Then we head to the most famous week of Racing the the world famous 3200m Melbourne Cup.

The Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival really jumps into action in October with brilliant carnivals, the Caulfield Spring Racing Carnival at Caulfield racecourse and the Moonee Valley Spring Racing Carnival. Melbourne Cup Week Racing Carnival…4 meetings, 40 races in 1 week!
This is the week of weeks in Racing around the world…the Melbourne Cup Week Racing Carnival. Four days of Racing featuring 37 races for the week and over $20 million of prize money including the now record amount of $7.3 million for the Melbourne Cup, the $5 million WS Cox Plate the $2 million Victoria Derby and the $2m Victoria Oaks amongst other brilliant racing. And of course all the action comes from the home of Racing, Flemington racecourse which will host over 400,000 attendees over Cup week. Derby Dat is arguably the biggest of the race days as it hosts 4 Group 1, 2 Group 2 and 3 Group 3 races on what amounts to the day of days for Racing preceding the big Melbourne Cup day on the Tuesday. Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival – Country Cups
The Country Cups meetings as part of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival are now integral races on the calendar. The are especially relevant to the many overseas horses who have not been cleared from quarantine until just before the Melbourne Cup. There are also a number of horses that may need to use these races for qualification to the Melbourne Cup.
