This is especially if circumstances such as poor tracks, injury or performance over the Sydney and Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnivals occured. Then Brisbane can provide some nicer options within a similar timeframe.

The second reason that the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival has been so successful many of the “Southern” states trainers elect to leave their horses in Brisbane to rest and spell in the Brisbane winter sun. It is a very productive environment for their horses to furnish into stronger animals and in general be happier escaping the harshness of the southern winter. It has proven to be a very successful method with many horses returning to improve to new personal best levels in the Spring.

Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival – 8 Group 1s from early May

Late May sees the Brisbane Racing Carnival move “across the road” to Eagle Farm racecourse. They are literally across the road located side by side (with a road in between). Eagle Farm hosts 4 days of Group 1 Racing during the Brisbane Winter Carnival as follows:

Group 1 $750,000 Kingsford Smith Cup (formerly the BTC Cup WFA 1300m).
Group 2 Sires Produce Stake (1350 2YO) with five other Group 3 races decided on the day.

The Second day of the Eagle Farm Brisbane Winter Carnival 30 May is all about the girls with the running of the:
Group 1 $500,000 Queensland Oaks (3YO fillies 2200m)
Group 2 PJ O’Shea Stakes (WFA 2200m)
Group 2 QTC Cup (Qty Hcp 1300m)

Super Saturday Stradbroke Handicap – Doomben racecourse 6 June

The biggest day of the Brisbane Racing Tips Winter Carnival is “Day 3” of the Eagle Farm fixture. This features a Super Saturday of Brisbane Racing Tips with 3 Group 1s and the jewel in the crown the Stradbroke Handicap:
Group 1 $1.5 million Stradbroke Handicap (Open Handicap 1400m)
Group 1 $600,000 Queensland Derby (3 year old 2400m)
Group 1 TJ  Smith Stakes (2 year old 1600m)
