The Everest will be run on the 14 October 2017 at Royal Randwick racecourse in Sydney. It will be the richest turf race in the world with prizemoney of AUD$10 million. This race is part of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival and has been added to the Sydney schedule in part to divert attention away from the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. It is a weight-for-age sprint race that will be run over 1200m and will attract the attention of some of Australia’s best sprinters.
The prizemoney for The Everest is significant in that it far outweighs the prizemoney of the next highest stakes race in Australia, the Melbourne Cup at AUD$6.2 million. Mind you at a cost of $600,000 just to enter the race for owners, you would want to have prizemoney of that nature. What is interesting here is once you have paid up you can choose to trade your position or go into partnership with another party with your placement. Prizemoney in The Everest for the winner here is AUD$5.8 million but every horse that competes connections receive prizemoney down to the last runner.
