The Melbourne Cup is Australia’s most famous horse race. Held on the first Tuesday of every November, it is run over the gruelling 3200 metres. In 2017, the Melbourne Cup will be held on Tuesday 6th November at the usual Melbourne Cup time 3pm AEDT and has an increase in prize money in 2018 now $7.3 million, up $1.1 million from last year. Melbourne Cup Day attracts a crowd normally over 100,000 people with the record 129,809 in 2006.
The 2017 Melbourne Cup was won by Rekindling from Johannes Vermeer and Max Dynamite. Interesting all three place getters from last years Melbourne Cup are nominated for 2018 with Rekindling heading betting as a $19 favourite, Johannes Vermeer second favourite at $26 and Max Dynamite down the list at $61.
