Autumn Racing Carnival Sydney 2017Whilst Melbourne Racing dominates the landscape in Australian Racing in the Spring, it is now challenged in the Autumn with the expansion of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. The Carnival, traditionally going from mid March to mid April now commences on the 25 February with the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes and goes until mid April with the Champagne Stakes and All Aged Stakes.

In between these two dates, there are significant meetings featuring brilliant Group one and two races. These include the Randwick Guineas 4 March, Coolmore Stakes 11 March, the worlds richest 2 year old race the Golden Slipper March 18 which also features the George Ryder Stakes, The Galaxy and the Rosehill Guineas and then there is the BMW Stakes on 25 September along with the Storm Queen Stakes.

The Racing over the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival 2017 comes from Royal Randwick and Rosehill racecourses and the one meeting from Warwick Farm which is the weekend that kicks off the Carnival the Chipping Norton. The Golden Slipper meeting is held at Rosehill and the fortnight of The Championships featuring the Doncaster Handicap and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, amongst others are held at Royal Randwick.

Saturday 1st April and Saturday 8th April 2016

The Championships is the Grand Finals of Australian Racing in the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival 2017 and was inaugurated in 2014 and the concept is to feature and showcase the very best of Australian Racing during the jewel crown of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.

Held on the first and second Saturday of each April, The Championships is twelve races to determine champion status over different age groups and distances. Racing NSW and the Australian Turf Club “ATC” and the NSW Government are partners in the initiative.

The Prize Money

Prizemoney totals over $20 million over the two days with the finest of Australian and international horses competing. Royal Randwick is the host to the two big days of Racing on Saturday 1 and 8 April. Feature races include Group 1 races Doncaster Handicap, AJC Derby, Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Australian Derby, Australian Oaks and the Sydney Cup.
