It was an incredible opening weekend of the AFL Finals 2017/18 series with the highlight (lowlight if you barrack for Port) and that amazing extra time game. From an AFL tips and betting viewpoint, we delivered in the Eagles win but missed the other two games.

AFL Tips & Insights

Adelaide was too strong for GWS and loses Smith to an ACL but gets back Sloane for its home Prelim final. GWS now front West Coast at home who have to travel Perth-Adelaide-Perth-Sydney in a week. GWS looks like it has lost Mumford as well as Cameron, both massive losses.

Richmond was super charged in its win over Geelong in front of 91,000 at the G and sunk and now had its first finals win since 1991 and aiming for its first Grand Final since 1982. It smells a little of the Bulldogs last year for the Tigers. Geelong now have to find something special to not go out in straight sets over Sydney who as beaten them five of the last six times. Selwood and Danger surely cannot play that poorly again?

Sydney smashed Essendon and made our best bet +35.5 Essendon look sick. Sydney smashed the Bombers and continue its 15-2 win streak since its 0-6 season start. Buddy is sore with a corked thigh but should come up.

But it was the amazing win in extra time of West Coast over Port Adelaide that amazed all AFL fans and got us a win +15.5 West Coast. It was one of the most amazing games we have seen and Port has only itself to blame. It’s kicking for goal was atrocious and hurt it badly but how they could start so poorly in a home final is beyond belief. The first quarter cost them the game, no doubt. West Coast to its credit was very good and the old timers Mitchell, Priddis and Petrie brilliant. Hard to believe they will lose all three next year.

Port Adelaide President David Koch coming out and questioning the selection of the younger players rather than senior players buy Coach Ken Hinckley and its impact on the result is just not on. It just places everyone under further pressure, especially Hinkley. Not that Hinkley would pay any attention but….you get it!! Hinckley surely must be looking at a 5 year million dollar per annum offer from the Gold Coast Suns. He was an assistant there and knows the landscape well. Hurry up and give him an extension Port or he may be lost.
