The Rollercoaster AFL 2017 season continues

The 2017 AFL tipping and betting season continues its rollercoaster ride which reflects our Human Behaviour Model well as we have been going on for most of the year that 2017 is an even year and it is unfolding this way. Incredible that the weekend just gone every winning team beat a side positioned above them on the table…we doubt this has ever happened.

Mid Table Crunch This AFL Season

There is two games between teams 2nd on the table 5-2 and teams 13th at 3-4. That’s 12 teams all within this two game range and provides great betting opportunities within it.

Crows crunched after a 6 game cover streak

The Adelaide Crows came down in a screaming heap and created an excellent AFL betting and tipping opportunity in their loss to North Melbourne in Tassie. North was $6 pre game (did get out to $6.40) and with a 10 goal to nil first quarter the game was done at quarter time.

We are struggling to find whether the top ranked team has ever had 10 goals kicked against it in a first quarter, ever been 62 points down at quarter time AND didn’t score a goal to boot! The Crows had covered the line 6 games in a row and we sensed a flat performance coming (hence the tip of North +37.5 and win $6). The loss will do no harm for the Adelaide Crows and a little bit of humble pie into the Crow Camp wont hurt.

North are resilient!

We must give North their dues, they are incredibly resilient. Having lost three games by under a goal this year we thought they may have been cooked and lost all incentive. They actually have rallied in this tough period and now are on a four game peak performance cover streak…a mighty effort for a young side.

Saints are on the march

St Kilda has now won four of its last five games and in the process took out the highly ranked Giants in the process. The Saints are starting to live up to the pre-season hype.

Bulldogs and Richmond play a belter

Richmond led the Bulldogs by 30 points late in Q2 and it looked game over. The Bulldogs showed they still have bite and came back very strongly in the second half. We still are not convinced on the Dogs but at 5-2 they are in a nice spot to challenge.

However the manner they win worries us, however the bookies keep being sucked in by it and we benefit with favorable AFL 2017 tips and betting lines against the Dogs. Richmond were pretty good and if they can hold their nerve there is no reason they cannot make the 8 and possibly challenge the 4. They are greatly improved year on year and we are watching the AFL betting opportunities with them to see if the bookies underrate them.

West Coast on the rise and Geelong a hiccup?

West Coast were impressive beating Port and at the same time stopped the nose bleed of away losses. That said, the away issue is Melbourne centric, not Adelaide. There record here is very good and they looked go in beating Port. So we are watching them closely. Geelong had a poor loss v Gold Coast. Dangerfield looks injured, Selwood quiet two weeks in a row and the engine room dries up and now they face the Bombers. The jury is out.

The Hawks and Swans get wins….wow!

Hawthorn had their second win of the season with a strong win (and a win for us) over Melbourne. It was a solid enough win, led by the brilliance of Shaun Burgoyne. They don’t look the same side but play like that they win half their games but we are not convinced.

Sydney finally got a win with a Buddy 8 goal performance. Yes, Sydney kicked 135 points but Brisbane were able to kick 81 points. This doesn’t look like the same Sydney side of recent years but they do have talent.

Gold Coast is strong winners at home and Port Adelaide frontrunners?

Gold Coast had a big win at home over Geelong and seem slowly to be getting their game together. Away wins may be rare but at home they seem capable of beating anyone.

Port had a poor loss at home v Eagles. How on earth can they have the highest percentage in the comp but cough games up losing in what should be strong home wins against good sides? Well, they have won three games by near 100 points over Freo (Rd 2), Carlton and Brisbane. That has got front runner written all over it and until they start to beat quality sides in tough tight games they will be considered nothing different.

In the meantime the China experiment comes into play this week. We hope it works well for both clubs but quite frankly what a waste of time and resource. If the USA, UK and NZ’ers cannot cotton onto and grasp our game how on Earth are the Chinese going to? Unless they think it is aerial ping pong…which they may. Port need to win this for any credibility (commercially we mean) and the young Suns…well at least they can tell their families they have been to China! Gazza must just be ecstatic about travelling here. Cathay Pacific First Class anyone?

And the others…!
Freo looked good at home beating Essendon, who looked ordinary and cooked. Collingwood after the hysteria of last weeks win lose to arch rival Carlton who look on the improve. Brisbane will finish bottom. Melbourne had a poor loss and we are uncertain on the year on year improvement ex Paul Roos departure.
