iTipsports – Melbourne Racing
iTipsports provides a form sheet and tipping service for Saturday and major race meetings in Melbourne from our form analyst Pete Brinky (see bio for further info).
Pete provides a comprehensive overview of the form sheet he covers with an introductory overview of each race, the best chances within that race, what odds we believe to be to back it and how we rate the selected horses chances.
Pete categorises his chances as a 2 star BEST BET, 1 star Strong Bet and a 0.5 star Value Bet. This allows you to create a staking plan for the meeting relative to the rating we provide. The other factor to consider is the starting price relative to our rated price.
iTipsports form sheets go out no later than Friday 4pm which gives you every chance to get on at the early odds before the rest of punters. Our experience is that as a rule, Friday night markets provide better odds than on a Saturday.
Pete Brinky Melbourne Racing covers all Saturday meetings and all major race meetings over the Spring and Autumn Carnivals. We provide you the best 2-3 chances in each race and a commentary of the chances within the race. We also provide you the odds we believe the horse should be that allows you to gauge the relative value of a selection.
Whilst the Sydneysiders may disagree, Melbourne is the Premier state for horseracing in Australia, best reflected by the Spring Carnival and to a lesser degree the Autumn Carnival.
The Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival is the biggest Racing period of the year. The Carnival takes place between late August and mid November and includes 14 Group 1 races like the $6.175 million Melbourne Cup, $1.5 million Victoria Derby, $3 million WS Cox Plate, October 2015 and the $3 million Caulfield Cup.
All four major Melbourne metro tracks feature during the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival including Flemington, Caulfield, Moonee Valley and Sandown but also there are major Country meetings at Ballarat, Geelong and Bendigo. These tracks are the rotation of tracks for not only Saturdays but Wednesdays and other major race days.
Autumn is the other big race time of the year in Victoria. Starting in late February and going until mid April, it rivals the Spring Carnival for the quality of horses running without the glamour of Melbourne Cup week. Group 1 races which stand out include the Newmarket Handicap, The Futurity, Australian Cup and the 2 yr old classic the Blue Diamond Stakes.
Apart from the big Spring and Autumn Racing, there is the Winter Championships in June/July and the big Christmas/New Year meetings in December and January.
Some of the best jockeys in the country are from Melbourne and regional Victoria including Damien Oliver, Dwayne Dunn, Craig Newitt, Mark Zahra, Nash Rawiller, Luke Nolan and Dean Yendell. In terms of trainers Darren Weir, Peter Moody, David Hayes, Mick Price, Wayne Hawkes and Robert Smerdon are all Victorian.
